The curriculum used to teach AGP Math for 4th Graders includes activities designed to provide acceleration (speeding up the rate of learning), enrichment (additional activities not provided in the general curriculum), and depth (deeper exploration of topics).
To provide acceleration, we will explore the 4th Grade and 5th Grade iReady curriculum by Curriculum Associates. These activities and lessons are aligned with the State Standards adopted by SC. Your child can access iReady online (including the workbook pages) through the ClassLink portal.
Please refer to the menu at the left to view the SC State Standards.
Enrichment activities occur throughout the year. The two main gifted units we explore are Hands-On Equations developed by Dr. Henry Borenson which explores algebra concepts with manipulatives, and the University of Connecticut's gifted curriculum units such as Project M3: Analyze This!
Information about Hands-On Equations can be found at http://www.borenson.com/
A video of a child working a problem from lesson 4 in Hands-On Equations is at http://www.borenson.com/Videos/VideoDemo/tabid/840/Default.aspx.
Information about Project M3 and UConn's Gifted Research is at https://k12.kendallhunt.com/program/project-m3-mentoring-mathematical-minds-second-edition?srsltid=AfmBOorCra-RDJHpj5CfyhGauzUAKqMtBKXhnEbyFO8Dbq5QloFrydRE and http://gifted.uconn.edu/projectm3/m3_teachers_level4-5/
All AGP activities require our students to think and work at a deeper level than is required in the general curriculum. This is an exciting curriculum, and it is designed to allow every child to progress intellectually at his level.
