Math:
This week we Continue our Geometry unit. We will begin Topic 16: Lines, Angles, and Shapes. We will identify perpendicular, parallel, and intersecting lines. Also, we will classify triangles and quadrilaterals, and recognize lines of symmetry. We will also be reviewing for SC READY. Progress learning is a great digital resource to review for SC Ready. Students can work on their learing path to review concepts we have learned this year.
Science:
This week we will study structures and functions of plants.
Reading:
This week is a shortened and crazy week due to field testing, field TRIP, and Career Day, so we'll do a bit of test prep with nonfiction and theme.
Students will do a weekly 10 question reading comprehension quiz on Fridays to practice test prep skills. Since they combine a variety of reading, writing, and grammar skills from throughout the year, the best way to study is to continue reading nightly, as well as thinking deeply about the text. Sample guided questions can be found here.
Students should continue to apply strategies to figure out the meanings of new words during independent reading. Please encourage them to do this when they read at home as well!
Writing:
Again, due to the crazy week, we will do just a bit of independent writing to debrief highlights of the field trip!

I am reviewing opinion writings with students. Rubrics will come home over the next few weeks as I meet with them. Thank you for your patience!
*In 4th grade, all published writings will be typed, not written. This is to prepare students for the end of year SC READY test.
