Thank you for coming here to support your child's (children's) learning! Here I have some tools to help you. Here is my email address: kmcarter@lexrich5.org and here are a few reasons to contact me:
you want to help your student request books online
you want to tell me more about your child(ren)
you need resources
you want to send me a photo of when you caught your student reading
SCCCL is a Children's Library at USC and houses Cocky's Reading Express. They have a TERRIFIC website loaded with resources!Â
Whichbook: Grown-ups need help finding books, too! You use sliders to indicate your preferences and get suggestions based on those. It has clever category names like "Laughed My Pants Off" and "Short and Sweet." A kid version is coming soon!
Goodreads: another cool user-friendly book suggestion site, this time with a social media aspect as well! I connect with some great authors this way.
Here are a few sites that suggest books. So, when your child(ren) say, "I'm bored," you can show them these sites! FYI: All links take you off-site.
Guys Read: Book reviews galore! From hilarious author John Scieszka.
Lexile.com: when your child says he or she has to read books within a certain Lexile number, this is what they mean and here is a helpful way to find books in your child's range!
Age-appropriate books for advanced readers: Some great ideas for the kids who've read all the most difficult stuff they could find!
The Reading Mama: a blog with lots of great posts. This link is suggestions for books for struggling readers.
The Association for Library Service to Children: They have a TON of resources to help find great books! It's hard for kids to navigate, so they'll need you to help.
