I was fortunate to have incredible teachers beginning in kindergarten who were fabulous at making me feel loved, valued and safe. I wanted to accomplish whatever they challenged me to do and learn. I knew they were there to support even if that support wasn't telling me the answer. I learned to be a risk-taker and it was okay to be wrong! I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a teacher just like them and provide students with any resources that they need. to be successful and feel proud of themselves.
I want my students to become readers, but not just readers of books. Reading is an essential life skill. My hope is that they will love reading books, but I want them to be able to to read and comprehend print they encounter every day (i.e. - roads signs, recipes, directions, menus, game instructions, sports plays, etc.).
