Welcome to 8th grade ELA! I am so happy to have the privilege to teach your eighth graders this year. I started at Dutch Fork Middle last January, so I'm excited for my first full year at the school. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in English Writing and History/Political Science at Concordia College in 2006.
Before becoming a teacher, I worked as a newspaper reporter & editor for nearly 10 years, taught English online to kids in China, and still work as a copywriter and editor for my former newspaper colleague's writing business. I am also the leader of an amazing multilevel Girl Scout troop of 30+ girls grades K-7, and I love leading them on exciting adventures.
Originally from "Up North," I was born in Boston and moved north from there, spending most of my childhood through college in northern Minnesota. My first newspaper job brought me to Florida, and I've lived in South Carolina since the end of 2014. I have two amazing girls, who are in first and fourth grade this year.
When I'm blessed with spare time, I love to camp, practice archery, sew clothes, read (or listen to audiobooks!) and go on adventures with my daughters.
I’m thrilled for the opportunity to show how ELA skills directly apply to “the real world” and to help each of my students become stronger readers and writers. But even more than that, I love helping my students grow their confidence and as people.
I love when I get time to practice archery at my in-laws' family farm.
One of my greatest passions is being a local Girl Scout leader.
