Hi there! Welcome to my page. Below, you will find information about me.
My language journey goes back to childhood, listening to my Peruvian stepmom speak to her family on the phone in Spanish on long car trips. My formal education in Spanish started in eighth grade and continued through college as I majored in Spanish. I have traveled to Perú , The Dominican Republic, and Colombia. Additionally, I lived in Logroño, Spain for a school year and studied abroad in Valencia, Spain for a spring semester. Through these experiences, I have gained the skills that allow me not only to eavesdrop on my stepmom's conversations (just kidding), but I can also use the language to communicate with her side of the family as well as my friends abroad. I look forward to teaching my students these same communication skills.
This is my first year at CHS. I taught Spanish at Dutch Fork HS for the past five years. Before that, I taught ESOL at the middle school level in Columbia, SC. I was also a teaching assistant in two secondary schools in Logroño, Spain through the Fulbright Program. In college, I did my student teaching in Georgia at the high school level in Spanish 2,3, and 4, in addition to a pre-school dual-language immersion class. Before teaching at any official capacity, I was a volunteer tutor throughout high school in Spanish National Honors Society, National Honors Society, as well as my old elementary school. I love learning and teaching!
In my teaching, I strive to promote cultural awareness and to teach my students the practical, real world applications of learning another language. Whether a student's goal is to travel and learn about the world around them, work or study abroad, or just learn another language, I'm here to guide them along their journey. As they continue to take Spanish throughout the levels offered at CHS, students will learn not only how to have a basic conversation, but they will also gain skills to navigate a new place, express their opinions, give suggestions and excel at a job interview. Additionally, they will learn interpersonal speaking skills and presentational speaking skills.
