Job shadowing is a career exploration experience where a student spends time observing a professional at work to learn what a particular career is really like.
Chapin Middle School
Job Shadowing
Every Chapin Middle School student has the opportunity to apply for one excused day of absence to shadow someone in a career field the student has an interest in exploring. Job shadowing may be completed between November 1, 2026 and March 26, 2027.
Procedures for Job Shadowing:
1. Complete the Job Shadowing Application, Insurance & Emergency Information Form, and Work-Based Learning Program Permission Form.
2. Return the three (3) completed forms to Mrs. McFadden (M -109) at least one week prior to the shadow visit date. Students will receive an excused absence only for pre-approved shadow visits.
3. Upon completion of the job shadowing experience, students must complete a Job Shadowing Report and a thank you letter. These forms will be given to students once their requests have been approved, and both must be returned to Mrs. McFadden.
Other Important Information:
**Students who are participating in job shadowing as part of a class project must also follow the procedures outlined above.
**Students and their parents/guardian must arrange for transportation to and from the shadowing worksite.
**A student interested in careers in education who would like to shadow a teacher within the Lexington/Richland 5 School District, must contact Mrs. McFadden before completing the job shadowing forms.
**No student will be permitted to shadow during school-wide testing.
**Any school work missed as a result of being absent for job shadowing is the responsibility of the student.
