History

Chapin High School added men's soccer in 1979 and was Coached by Chapin Athletics Hall of Famer Randy Cooper. In Coach Coopers third year as Head Coach and third year of the program the Eagles made it to the Upper State Finals and squared off with what would become one of the great rivalries in South Carolina Soccer the Eastside Eagles. Chapin fell short that day but would build on that lesson and rise to become one of the dominant teams in South Carolina.

John Ortuno was the second Coach of the Eagles and he continued to build on the tradition until he moved on in 1990. The Father of Modern Day Chapin Soccer Thad Miller took over the program in 1990 and in 1992 he would lead the Eagles to the State Finals and a Runner Up Finish. Bob Taylor took over the programs in 1994 and led the team to two state finals in 1997 and 1999. Bob’s biggest contribution to date was bringing the Godfather of Chapin Soccer to Chapin in 2000.

Dick Hiller would lead Chapin to heights once thought unimaginable. Two straight losses to Bishop England in the State Finals and then the breakthrough win and the first State Championship in 2002. The Eagles would repeat in 2003 and would cement their place as one of the premier programs in the State. Irmo legend Kelly Herndon took over the program in 2012 and would coach the team to 2 elite 8 appearances. Upon his departure Ben Boscoe took over and led the Eagles to the 2016, and 2017 State Championships. Deny Sago would coach the team through much of the 2018 campaign and had them in position to win the Region. Coach Ken Corning took over for Deny in 2018 prior to the AC Flora game and Coach Ken took the boys on an epic championship journey. Under Corning the boys rattled off 9 wins without conceding a goal and winning the AAAA State Championship giving Chapin High School 50 total State Championships and their 5th Star for Soccer. The Eagles are currently on a 15 game winning streak in the playoffs.
