Whistle:
Generally the whistle should only be used to stop play and for certain restarts (such as a kickoff or penalty kick). As an example, when a goal is scored and the players are clearly aware, the Referee should just point toward the center circle, which is the correct signal. There is no need to use the whistle. Overuse of the whistle can diminish the impact of using it when you really need it. You may also use your whistle to restart play after a substitution.
Signals:
Corner Kick: The Referee signal is arm up at a 45 degree angle in the direction of the corner where the kick is to be taken. Reason: If the Referee's arm is straight out, even if pointing at the corner, some of the players, coaches and spectators may misinterpret this as a goal kick signal.
The AR signal is to point downward at a 45 degree angle at the near side flag. Reason: If the AR tries to point toward the opposite corner, that definitely looks like a signal for a goal kick.
Indirect Free Kick: Note that in BAYS an IFK is the restart after a deliberate heading of the ball at Grade 6 and younger. The Referee signal is arm straight up, lowered after the kick is taken AND the ball touches another player, goes out of play, or it is otherwise clear that a goal cannot be scored directly from the kick. It is important to give the signal properly so that everyone knows the kick is indirect, and to lower the arm at the right moment which means that a good goal can now be scored.
Uniforms:
Wearing the proper uniform in the proper manner communicates both competence and pride in your role. It is easier to play the role if dressed for the part.
If there are ARs assigned to a match, the Referee should try to coordinate with them so that they all wear the same color referee jersey.
Black shorts and referee knee socks pulled up should always be worn.
Shirts should be tucked in, please. I realize that we live in an "untucked" culture, but see the first bullet above. Please try to do this while on the field - it also makes it easier for you to ask the players to tuck their shirts in.
Badge - You earned your referee badge and should remember to wear it with pride on your referee jersey!
