MS World Languages - Standards Based Instruction

World Language Standards and Overview of Rubrics

All World Language students will be assessed on Reading, Listening, Writing, Speaking and Cultural Competency throughout each trimester.

The student's progress will be assessed frequently through the use of Skills Rubrics that include clear, asset-based language about what a student CAN DO and HOW the student can progress within the skill.

Since our skills are recursive and will be taught and assessed in multiple trimesters, the language in the skills rubric will shift to represent the proficiency level (grade level) of the skill you are practicing.

6TH GRADE STANDARDS

Receptive Language (Input)

Reading: Identifies the general topic, basic information and some details from text.

Listening/Viewing: Identifies the general topic, basic information and some details from audio.

Productive Language (Output)

Writing: Produces written information, with accuracy, using a variety of practiced or memorized words, phrases, and simple sentences.

Presentational Speaking: Produces spoken information, with accuracy, using a variety of practiced or memorized words, phrases, and simple sentences.

Interpersonal Speaking: Communicates with accuracy in spontaneous spoken language, using a variety of practiced or memorized words, phrases, simple sentences, and questions.

Cultural Competency: Identifies typical products and practices to help understand diverse perspectives. Investigates, explains and/or reflects on culture and language through comparisons with their own.

7TH GRADE STANDARDS

8TH GRADE STANDARDS

Presentational Speaking: Produces spoken information, with accuracy, using a variety of words, phrases, and simple sentences with connecting ideas, details and elaboration.

Interpersonal Speaking: Communicates with accuracy in spontaneous spoken language. Generates and sustains a conversation by applying previously learned content and vocabulary.

Cultural Competency: Analyzes typical products and practices to help understand diverse perspectives. Investigates, explains and/or reflects on culture and language through comparisons with their own.
