Course Description
Math 3 students will expand their understanding of functions to include polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions. They will use trigonometric functions for sinusoidal modeling and other algebraic uses. They will make use of sequences and series. Students will apply methods from probability and statistics to draw inferences and conclusions from data. Math 3 students will engage in mathematical practices such as making sense of problems, reasoning and constructing arguments, and using structure and regularity. They will use functions and geometry to create and critique mathematical models and solve contextual problems. They may use tools including graphing calculators, spreadsheets, and geometry software.
Calculators for Math Students will need a Texas Instruments TI-84 or TI-83 calculator for all math courses at LHS. Our school recommends purchasing such a calculator which can be used for all 4 years of high school. Access for everyone is our priority, so we also make long-term loans of calculators to any student who needs one. A student can borrow a calculator by seeing Miss Butterfly in office 711, weekdays 7:45-11:30 a.m. beginning August 30, 2023. (There is no longer a Google Form to complete as in the past.)
