What is SHAC?

LEXINGTON SCHOOL HEALTH ADVISORY COUNCIL (SHAC)

The Lexington School Health Advisory Council (SHAC), an advisory group appointed by the school district, is a collaborative effort of the Lexington schools, students, family, town and community organizations. The Lexington SHAC addresses the health and academic success of all students through a coordinated, comprehensive school and community approach.

SHAC resources support programs that promote better health for our school community which includes students, families and school personnel. Current initiatives supported or sponsored by SHAC include:

  • LPS Wellness Policy

  • LGBTQ Task Force

  • Annual Parent Academy

  • SBIRT (Substance Abuse Screenings, Brief Intervention, Referral to Treatment)

  • Support the Lexington Mental Health Task Force- INTERFACE Referral Services https://interface.williamjames.edu/community/lexington

  • LPS Prevention Program

  • Substance Abuse Task Force

  • Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) updates

We welcome new members. If you are interested in the Council’s initiatives, have a general interest in healthy schools, and/or would like to introduce new ideas, we welcome you to join SHAC.
