Grades

Grades will be broken down by skill area. There are 6 categories, each worth 25% of the overall grade:

1. listening,

2. interpersonal speaking,

3. presentational speaking,

4. reading,

5. intercultural communication

6. writing.

THREE POINTS

For each skill within a performance task, students will receive one of the following ratings related to their performance at the targeted level of proficiency:

• • 0: Task was not attempted.

  • 1: BEGINNING/ Not meeting standards: The student attempted the task, but was not able to show any understanding of the target words, structures and/or cultural knowledge. In tasks requiring students to produce language, a score of 1 indicates that the student was unable to produce language that is comprehensible to a speaker of the language. Tutoring and reassessments are always available!

  • 2: PROGRESSING/ Approaching standards: indicates that, the student demonstrated partial, but inadequate, understanding of the meaning and/or usage of the target words, structures and/or cultural knowledge. There is clear evidence of at least one critical error.

  • 3: MEETING/ Meeting standards: indicates that the student completed the task and demonstrated overall understanding, and mostly adequate usage, of the target words, structures and/or cultural knowledge. Errors indicate difficulty with some finer, more advanced aspects of the topic.

When students need help, they are highly encouraged to sign up for the support classes called WIN through the website MyFlexLearning.
