2024-2025 Welcome Letter

August 2024

Dear Discovery students and families,

Welcome to eighth grade!  We hope you’re having a safe, enjoyable summer and that you are excited about the upcoming school year.  We are confident that your eighth grade experience will be fun, varied, challenging, and productive.  Our goal is to help you reach your potential and ensure that you have the skills and knowledge you need when you leave middle school. Along the way, whenever you need assistance, advice, or a little inspiration, we are always here to help.

When classes begin, we would like to ensure that our students are organized and prepared for their upcoming tasks and assignments.  To help with your back-to-school preparations, we are suggesting the following materials to start. Teachers may also specify individual class needs during the first few days of school.

• earbuds/small headphones (Chromebook compatible)

• 3-inch binder with sectional dividers for various classes

• 1.5 inch binder for Math

• assortment of pens, pencils, and colored pencils

• pencil case or zipper pouch

• ruler

• eraser

• 3-4 highlighters

• at least 4 pocket folders with binder holes (1 per on-team class)

• 2 spiral notebooks with perforated, lined paper and binder holes

• mini stapler

• paper hole punch (3-hole, made to fit in a 3-ring notebook)

• TI-83 or TI-84 Graphing Calculator

• A small composition notebook or 1 subject notebook for Science class
