Major algebra topics in Math 3 include sequences, polynomial functions, radicals and rational exponents, exponential and logarithmic functions, transformations, and circular and periodic trigonometry. Additionally Math 3 has a unit on inferential statistics, and in 2025-26 the course will also include compound and conditional probability.
Math 3 students will engage in mathematical practices such as reasoning, sense making, problem solving, modeling, statistical inference, and using structure and regularity. Computer applications and graphing calculators are used often. This course includes both calculator-active and non-calculator assessments.
This course is mostly aligned with the Model Mathematics III course or the Model Algebra II course of the MA Curriculum Framework. The primary curriculum resource is Illustrative Mathematics Algebra 2, with supplementation from CME Project, Mathematics III and teacher-created materials.
