MISSION STATEMENT FOR LEXINGTON PUBLIC SCHOOL NURSES

The mission of the Lexington Public School nurses is to use our professional expertise to support students in maintaining optimal mental, emotional, and physical well-being.  We value compassionate, collaborative, culturally sensitive, and evidenced-based health care, while recognizing diverse needs. Enabling students to be healthy, safe, successful learners while being (or developing into) their authentic selves.

Welcome to Jonas Clarke Middle School Nurses' Office, where there are two registered nurses who have expertise in school health and pediatric care.

We ask parents/guardians to notify the school nurses if their child has any medical problems, e.g. allergies, experiencing a stressful situation, chronic illness, vision or hearing difficulties, recent surgery, etc. The school nurses will work with the child’s physician, parent and other school personnel to meet special health needs in school so that the child may benefit from his/her educational program.

To report an absence, late arrival, or early dismissal, please fill out the Clarke Attendance Form.  Please provide any pertinent information as we monitor this for health related concerns.

All medications are administered by the school nurses during school hours. Only FDA-approved medications may be administered at school.   District policy does not permit students to self-administer over-the-counter or prescribed medications during school.   Emergency medications, such as inhaler or epinepherine may be carried and self administered if the physician and parent have given written permission.  Documentation from the child’s physician and parent/guardian signature is required by State of Massachusetts School Health Laws for all medications given during school hours. Medication forms are available here on the website - look for the forms page at the left navigation area.

We manage and document the State of Massachusetts mandated screenings, immunization, and physical examination compliance.

Please contact the school nurses with any questions or concerns related to your child. cla-nurse@lexingtonma.org

Joyce Towle, BSN, BA, RN, NCSN

It is both a joy and honor to support students as they navigate the important middle school years.  In my free time I treasure family time, a round of golf now and then, lots of walking, pickleball, cooking, and time on the Cape!

I am very fortunate to be a part of the Clarke community and the LPS nursing team. I am dedicated to the health and wellness of all our students and find great joy in being a part of their lives. Outside of school, I love to travel, garden, and tackle home projects.
