The Generative AI Use Scale helps students navigate artificial intelligence without losing their critical thinking skills. It provides a clear framework for when and how to use AI tools appropriately. The core of this scale is the Human Intelligence (HI) plus AI process: projects begin with human ideas, involve AI interaction, and end with careful human analysis. Regardless of the assignment level, students remain 100% accountable for their final work. By treating AI outputs as first drafts that need strict fact-checking and editing, students develop the critical judgment required for an AI-driven world.
