Apple Dictation on MacBooks converts spoken words into text via the microphone icon. In the classroom, this frees students from typing speed and spelling barriers, allowing them to focus fully on critical thinking, story structure, and expressing their ideas naturally.
Go to System Settings
In the left-hand menu, select Keyboard
Scroll down to Dictation. Toggle on to enable.
Select Enable Dictation.
*Note: You only need to follow these directions once, and Dictation will be enabled.
Place the cursor anywhere you would like to use Dictation.
Press the MacBook Microphone button.
Wait 2-5 seconds and begin speaking.
Once you have finished speaking, tap the microphone to stop dictation.
