Chrome Reading Mode is a built-in browser tool that instantly strips away annoying ads, sidebars, pop-ups, and auto-playing videos from web pages, transforming cluttered online articles into a clean, book-like document.
Students will want to use it while studying because it eliminates digital distractions during deep research, allows them to customize font sizes and background colors (like switching to dark mode for late-night reading), generates quick article summaries and tables of contents for faster skimming, and can even read text aloud so they can listen to their sources while taking handwritten notes.

Open Chrome and navigate to the webpage to be read.

To start Reading Mode
Select the 3 vertical dots to the right of the URL
Select More Tools
Select Reading Mode
Note: Chrome Reading Mode only supports individual web pages that contain clear, readable article text with primary content.

To personalize Reading Mode settings, select the gear icon.
In this menu, adjust the color theme, font, line height, letter spacing, voice selection, and voice highlight.

Enable Pin reading mode to access reading mode more easily in the future by selecting the book icon to the right of the URL.

To exit Reading Mode, select the X.
