Apple's Live Caption on iPad creates real-time text transcriptions for spoken audio from videos, calls, and live instruction. It helps students read along at their own pace, stay focused in noisy environments, and process key information so they never miss important lesson details.
Go to System Settings
In the left-hand menu, select Accessibility.
Then select Live Captions under the Hearing heading.
In the Live Caption menu, toggle on Live Caption.
*Note: Students only need to follow these directions once to enable Live Captions.
Select Appearance to adjust text size, color, or background color based on personal preference.
Once Live Caption is enabled, the Live Caption box should appear on the screen.
Live Caption will automatically start listening via the iPad microphone and creating captions.
To pause or change to the iPad audio coming directly from the device, such as a video or podcast, select the microphone icon and change the audio source.
To hide the caption box, copy captions, or clear all captions, select the 3 dots at the top right of the caption box.
To hide the caption box, you can swipe left or right. To reopen the caption box, select the Live Caption icon.
