Hippo Family Club celebrates its 40th anniversary in October 2021.
The LMP (LEX Multilingual Presentation) was started in January 2015 to provide a platform for youth who had the opportunity to contemplate and appreciate human nature and diversity in a multilingual, multicultural, and multi-generational environment to share their personal discoveries from a "multilingual" perspective. So far, we have organized eight LMP's (including one virtual event) with 254 youths (individuals and groups) who delivered their messages to the world and society in three or more languages, based on their multilingual experiences.
While English has long been considered a crucial second language in Japan, people are coming to realize that language diversity is an important part of our globalizing society. Recently, language practitioners and researchers alike have highlighted the fact that exposure to diverse languages helps to develop a flexible mindset and cultivate sensitivity to different cultures and new perspectives, thus allowing for deeper levels of communication.
Hippo Family Club's immersion-style multilingual language learning activities and transnational exchanges have been visualized through the young presenters' multilingual presentations. Through the previous LMP's, we encountered so many youths from all over the world who had multilingual experiences. LMP is a big opportunity for youth to reflect on their own experiences and verbalize their thoughts.
What is ordinary to one person may be extraordinary for another, and so all experiences and perspectives are welcome. Through the process of creating their presentations, presenters often rediscover their "unique," "special," and "extraordinary" selves in the process. This is why presenters' strong messages could create the opportunity for audiences to open their hearts and minds to multilingualism and diversity!
We look forward to hearing your messages at the 9th LMP Youth Tokyo. Let’s enjoy multilingualism towards a more vibrant world!
