What is financial aid? Financial aid is money that is given or borrowed to help pay for college. It can come from federal, state, local, school and private entities. North Carolina and the federal government award millions of dollars each year to help students pay for college. So where to start?

Each branch of Self-Help Credit Union in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Florida is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a local student. The purpose is to provide support and public recognition to students of any age who have shown a commitment to service in their community.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants must be attending, or accepted to attend, a post-secondary educational institution. Eligible institutions include universities, colleges, technical schools, trade and vocational institutions. Self-Help employees, board and committee members and their immediate families are not eligible.
Application Process
All applicants must submit a scholarship application—see the link above. Deadline for applying is April 15, 2022.
Selection Process
A selection committee made up of community leaders or branch members will review each application and select the recipient. The recipient will be notified by credit union staff, and we will ask each winner to provide a photograph that may be displayed on Self-Help’s website and other public channels.
Scholarship Amount
The amount to be awarded is $1000 from each credit union branch.
Distribution
The scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient’s school. The funds may be used for tuition, room, board, books or materials. A letter of acceptance or proof of enrollment from an educational institution is required. This documentation may be submitted with the application or any time prior to the payment.
The KPMG Future Leaders Program is a charitable initiative focused on developing future generations of women leaders. Funded by proceeds from the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and KPMG Women’s Leadership Summit, the KPMG Future Leaders Program annually awards twenty-two top female high school seniors the opportunity to enhance their personal growth through college scholarships, a leadership development retreat, mentorship, and an introduction to golf. The program’s main purpose is to help these young women continue to build a strong foundation and instill the confidence and leadership ability they need to succeed in college and ultimately in their long-term careers.
Selected KPMG Future Leader Recipients receive:
An annual scholarship of $10,000 per year for 4 years of college
A KPMG Future Leaders Retreat that will focus on leadership training, career development, and the college transition. *Please note, we’re hoping to plan for an in-person retreat in Summer 2022, however the health and safety of our participants is top priority. We will continue to assess the situation and will consider a virtual model if necessary.
A pairing with a mentor for one year; the mentor being a female executive that attended the KPMG Women’s Leadership Summit.
The North Carolina CTE Foundation is honored to sponsor the LeeAnn Tuttle-Thomas Memorial CTE Foundation Scholarship. LeeAnn Tuttle-Thomas served as a business education teacher, Curriculum and Instructional Management Coordinator and Career and Technical Education Director during her tenure with the Davidson County School System. While serving as the NCACTEA president, LeeAnn mentored and led the Career and Technical Education Administrators in North Carolina. Her commitment to education and her passion for students was evident in everything she did.

The North Carolina CTE Foundation is honored to sponsor the John Kirkman Honorary CTE Foundation Scholarship. Mr. Kirkman served North Carolina Career & Technical Education for over thirty years. Throughout his tenure in CTE, Mr. Kirkman served as a middle school and high school Agriculture teacher, CTE Director for Lee County Schools, CTE Regional Coordinator and Interim State CTE Director. His dedication and love for CTE led to many contributions that have positively impacted thousands of students, teachers, and administrators across the state.
Scholarship Award
One $1,500.00 scholarship will be awarded annually to one qualifying high school senior who is pursuing further education (certificate, diploma or degree) at an accredited college (including community college) or university.
One $100 scholarship will be awarded annually in each of the eight CTE Educational Regions to one qualifying high school senior who is pursuing further education (certificate, diploma or degree) at an accredited college (including community college) or university.

The Jacket Academic Boosters founded in 2012 to acknowledge, encourage and reward academic excellence in Lexington City Schools is pleased to announce that applications are being accepted for the John Thurman Walser, Jr (’57) Memorial Scholarship for $2000 which will be awarded to a deserving senior to aid them financially in their higher education endeavors. The BBB® Education Foundation of Central & Northwest NC is offering four (4) scholarships to graduating seniors from designated NC counties who will enroll at any accredited two or four-year college, technical college, or university in the fall of 2022.

The 2021 NCCSC Scholarship and Bob R. McGuire Memorial Scholarship application is now available. The scholarship is available to all North Carolina residents who have been accepted by a North Carolina school of higher learning: a College, University, Community College, or Technical School. In addition, at least one parent must be a member of the NCCSC, or a client of the Child Support Program (through either Child Support Services or Clerk of Court Services).

Through funds provided by our community service budget, the Eta Beta Beta Chapter, Inc. is able to provide scholarships to deserving African American Male College Eligible Seniors in High School in Davidson County North Carolina.
The Eta Beta Beta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Scholarship Program is available to high school students who will maintain full time status at a nationally accredited, post-secondary four-year institution or two-year Community College beginning in the fall of the year. Applicants must meet all of the eligibility requirements and deadlines to qualify. A $1,000.00 Scholarship will be awarded towards a four-year institution and $500.00 Scholarship will be awarded towards a two-year Community College. The Stay Lame Entrepreneur Scholarship is given in honor of Antwan King. Antwan was a 2002 graduate of Lexington Senior High School, and was passionate about many things, but none more important than the youth. He was CEO of 2 Deep Global Magazine and Stay Lame clothing apparel. This scholarship is for graduating seniors who want to go college and have shown determination for academic achievement, individualism, and leadership qualities.

Arts Davidson County Accepting Young Artist Scholarship Applications
Arts Davidson County is now accepting applications for the Young Artist Scholarship through Friday, May 13, 2022. The Young Artist Scholarship is a competitive scholarship available to qualified Davidson County residents. It provides a one-time scholarship in the amount of $500 for the recipient. This year, three scholarships will be awarded; one for Creative Writing, one for Performing Arts and one for Visual Arts. Arts Davidson County established the Young Artist Scholarship in 1983 to aid local students in their professional development.

The STEM Stars Actuarial Scholars Program promotes diversity in the actuarial profession by offering college bound students interested in pursuing a career as an actuary a scholarship of $20,000; $5,000 annually for four years, subject to award terms. Along with financial support, the program includes mentoring, tutoring, immersion experiences and guaranteed internships.
This annual scholarship is for students who have experienced personal challenges that may not have allowed them to perform well academically, but who still have the drive to succeed. With no GPA requirement, students are encouraged to apply as this scholarship is meant to be inclusive. Be a current high school senior. Plans on attending a 2 or 4 year college next school year.
The Betsy Y. Justus NC TECH Founders Scholarship was established in memory of NC TECH's founding CEO. Following her passing, NC TECH launched a scholarship to support young women in North Carolina who pursue an academic and career path in Technology or Engineering. Every year, two students are selected to receive a $4,000 scholarship ($1,000 per year). NC TECH accepts applications during April and May each year.
