Welcome!
My name is Mrs. Buckner and I will be your 6th grade ELA teacher! I hope you had a great summer and are ready to jump back into the groove of learning. I am extremely excited to meet you! We have an exciting school year planned for us that will include reading interesting and fun stories, creating projects, working in groups, writing compositions, and having fun. This will be your best year here at CIS and you will make new friends and have new experiences. This year is going to be great!
About Me
I am entering my nineteenth year of teaching and have been a part of the Chapin family for seventeen years. I live in Lexington and have a husband named Frank, a son named Emory, a son named Gavin, and a little one named Weston. Emory is thirteen years old and is quite a handful! His favorite thing to do is play outside and watch movies. Gavin is eleven years old and very active. His favorite things are dancing, play games, and helping me around the house! Weston is seven years old and he loves to listen to stories, hang out with the family, and play with Gavin. When I’m not playing with them, I love to read adolescent literature books like the Hunger Games series, Maze Runner, and Divergent series.
Our Classroom
Our classroom is a learning zone. Each one of you will have to be diligent in your studies and participating in class activities. You will have many opportunities to strengthen your reading abilities throughout the year by evaluating novels, short stories, plays, articles, and videos just to name a few. You will also develop your skills as a writer by constructing compositions on a variety of topics. Independently and with groups, you will complete creative projects that will sharpen your presentation skills and thinking abilities. Most importantly, you will have fun through the process!
Communication
Communication and organization are essential to your success in my class. Homework and upcoming due dates will be posted on the board and my website. I will also regularly send home emails about upcoming assignments. Be sure to organize your schedule so that you can complete tasks in a non-stressful manner! Please feel free to send me an email or speak to me privately if you have any questions or concerns!
“Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence.” ~ Abigail
I look forward to taking this trek of learning with you!
