Dual language Memoir Project lesson slides.
This project was created for an upper-elementary classroom in a title 1 school. The lesson guides students through a novel in verse, Unbound, based on a young enslaved girl who heroically escapes her captors. The lessons offer space to understand enslavement as part of American History in an age-appropriate way. The lessons include criticality and joy.
The Black History writing slides offer students the autonomy to explore the biographies of Black Americans under the themes of Black Genius and Creativity. Students ultimately produce and present a short biography celebrating the achievement of one person who espouses their chosen theme.
Number the Stars and ¿Quien cuenta las estrellas? is a dual language set of learning slides that takes 5th grade multilingual students through the novel Number the Stars in two languages. There are supports and scaffolds built in as well as templates for literature circle academic conversations and formative assessment products.
This slide deck is an example of how students access the lessons in all subjects for the week. As a learning portal in Google Slides, students have access to updates in real-time. They can easily find links to relevant lessons. This format was essential in creating access for students who were remote learners during the pandemic.
