Openly-Licensed Educational Resources, commonly referred to as OERs, are free and openly licensed educational materials that can be used for teaching, learning, research, and other purposes. OERs can take the form of an entire textbook or a single activity and are not restricted to online use. For example, you may find an entire interactive textbook that you can modify from CK-12 or an hour long hands-on activity from OER Commons. All OER must meet the "5 R" criteria with their copyright licensing.
#GoOpen is an initiative started by the United States Department of Education's Office of EdTech to support schools in replacing textbooks with OER. The Office of EdTech supports schools with online and face-to-face connection opportunities (like supporting #GoOpen Summits!), updated resource lists, and Ambassador districts. Learn more about becoming a #GoOpen district by exploring their Launch packet. It is free for any district or state to join. In the spring of 2018, ISKME signed on to enhance and expand the #GoOpen network.
