Craft Projects
Many of our Arts and Crafts projects are pretty simple to set up. Here are some of our favorites in case you'd like to try it at home!
Oobleck
Ingredients:
Water
Corn Starch
Optional: Food Dye
Oobleck is a non-Newtonian fluid, which means it behaves like a solid and a liquid at the same time. Mix the ingredients together in a bowl, paying attention to how the consistency changes. This is a fantastic sensory activity!
Slime
Ingredients:
Elmer's White School Glue
Contact Lens Solution
Baking Powder
Recommended: Liquid Food Dye
Pour the glue into a plate or bowl. If you want, you can add a food dye color of your choice. Add contact lens solution and baking powder and mix with your hands. The mixture will become more solid as its mixed until it forms a stretchy consistency. Now you can play with it easily!
Lava Lamps
Ingredients:
Water
Plastic water bottle or clear glass jar
Cooking Oil
Water
Alka Seltzer Tablets
Liquid Food Dye
Fill the bottle half-way with cooking oil. Fill 1/4 of the bottle with water. Add around 8 drops of food dye into the mixture. Add the Alka Seltzer tablet and watch the lamp come to life!
Warning: Do not put a cap on the bottle or seal it any other way once the reaction has started.
Fizzy Pots
Ingredients:
Small Bowl
Baking Soda
Vinegar
Liquid Food Dye
Pour some baking soda into a bowl and add a few drops of food dye. Use your hands or a spoon to mix the powder and the dye together. Now add some vinegar and enjoy the reaction! You may want to do this one outside or use a tablecloth.
Fake Snow
Ingredients:
Baking Soda
White Hair Conditioner
Mix baking soda and white hair conditioner together. You end up with fake snow that is fun to play with and smells nice!
Elephant's Toothpaste
Ingredients:
Plastic bottle
Dry Yeast
Warm Water
Hydrogen Peroxide
Dish Soap
Recommended: Liquid Food Dye
Measure 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide and carefully pour it in the bottle. Add a big squirt of dish soap into the bottle and swirl it gently to mix. Add a food dye of your choice. In a separate cup, mix one tablespoon of yeast and three tablespoons of warm water. Stir this for 30 seconds. Pour the yeast mixture into the bottle, step back, and watch the reaction!
