Programs of Study
A Step Beyond Endorsements
Students choose an endorsement when they enter high school, this helps us direct them on a career pathway that will in many cases, make them employable upon high school graduation.
TEA expects all students to be a COMPLETER in Programs of Study; this means students will take three or more courses for four or more credits.
Students get .5 credit for each semester of a class.
Ex: Principles of Ag = 1 credit; a year-long course
Health = .5 credit; a semester-long course
Students take eight classes each year, if they pass, they will earn eight credits a year.
Level of Studies
Within each Program of Study, there are several levels of courses. These courses are labeled as one through four, with lower level courses being taught respectively to freshman and sophomores. Students progress from level one to level four. Most level four classes are double blocked. Meaning they are at least two class periods long and are worth two credits. Some level three courses are double blocked and occasionally if there is not a level four course, a level two course is two credits. EVERY level one class is one credit only.
Class Example:
Culinary Arts (Level 2) = 2 class period
Adv. Culinary Arts (Level 3) = 2 class periods
Career Prep (level 4) = 2 class periods
Construction Mgmt. 1 (level 2) = 2 class periods
