142 years ago, on this day, October 14, one of the greatest inventions was filed for its first patent application for the "Improvement In Electric Lights." Up until this day, we see the fruitful results of this invention.

In 1878, Thomas Edison started a research study creating a practical incandescent lamp. On October 14, 1878, Edison filed his first patent application for "Improvement In Electric Lights." Nonetheless, he continued to test different types of material for its filaments to improve upon his initial design.

It has been stated that Thomas Edison was not the very first inventor of the light bulb. Still, he was able to create the light bulb design, which is commercially practical incandescent light. Due to a powerful combination of three variables, Edison's version outperformed prior versions: an effective incandescent substance, a more excellent vacuum than others were able to produce, and a high resistance that made power distribution from a centralized source economically possible.

Although the patent listed several methods for making carbon filaments, including cotton, linen thread, wood splints, and variously coiled papers, it was not until a few months after the patent was granted that Edison and his team discovered that a carbonized bamboo filament could last for a longer period of time.

This invention marked the beginning of the commercial manufacturing of light bulbs. Thomas Edison established his own company named Edison Electric Light Company, wherein he started to sell his products.
