Grade 11 Senior Squires traveled around the Metro to enhance and broaden their knowledge and skills in their respective Senior High School strands for the 2024 Industry Exposure on September 11-12 and October 4.
The first batch of industry exposure was divided into two days; day one was for the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) students wherein they visited Museo Maritimo, The Change Marker 2040, Harbour Square, and the Headquarters of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
“I think it is much deeper than just an ordinary trip. All the locations we visited were able to tease our curiosity about things or professions related to STEM,” said Clifford Clyde Rivera, from STEM11F.
Rivera added that all the topics and activities they encountered aligned with their specializations and were especially beneficial to STEM students.
Meanwhile, day two was allocated for Accountancy and Business Management (ABM) students who explored and analyzed the history and the social responsibilities of the Villar Sipag Foundation, the Catsup Museum, and The Gardenia Factory.
“This trip taught ABM students that there could be a lot of things that can be innovated just by looking at our environment that could serve as a door for a new business opportunity,” said Hershey Mellorida from ABM11B.
Mellorida added that technology and the human mind worked really well together for they work side-by-side to innovate and use power to increase productivity.
The second batch was postponed by the SHS Department due to bad weather conditions and was rescheduled after the quarterly examinations.
After the long wait, the Industrial Exposure resumed for the students of Home Economics (HE) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
The HE students traversed the vicinities of Gourmet Farm, Museo Orina, and TGI Fridays - Okada wherein they learned the arts and techniques of culinary.
"As an HE student, I was amazed that I could have gathered many lessons that could help me in my strand. Also, the places that we visit made us realize that HE strand has limitless opportunities that we can venture in the future,” according to Bryce Jakob De Rueda, from HE11A
Rueda also added that they had achieved their objective – which is learning the history and practices of bartending.
Meanwhile, the ICT students toured the IT department of Police Community, Affairs and Development Group, PTV-4 Headquarters, and Art in Island.
“The activities helped us get a glimpse of what my strand covers, and what I would expect to be discussed with me in my two years in SHS,” said Russell Lipcup from ICT11A
Licup also shared that the Industrial Exposure helps SHS students to engage more with their strand by doing activities alongside their classmates.
The activities and itineraries were planned by Mr. Jerry Escultura, the Student Development and Work Immersion Coordinator of the SHS Department of the Colegio, in partnership with JTB Tours and Travel Inc.
“Through our Grade 11 Industry Exposure Program, students have the chance to explore different career options tied to the strand they’ve chosen. They’ll also get a closer look at various industries, helping them gather practical insights that can guide their decisions about future studies and career paths,” Mr. Escultura said.
