Letran SHS Department Celebrates Chinese New Year with Virtual Gala Performance 2022

WEDNESDAY, February 9, 2022 - For the celebration of the Chinese New Year as well as the Year of the Tiger, the awaited Virtual Gala Performance has finally commenced entitled, “Stronger in Adversities: Embracing the Tiger’s Strength, Bravery, and Confidence of Tomorrow’s Letranite!” showcasing China’s rich cultural heritage which has been influential in the Philippines, as well as the students’ astonishing Mandarin speaking skills held via Facebook Livestream starting from 3:30 PM.
The Letran Senior High School also hosted a Virtual Performance Chinese Opera Contest where interested 12th-grade students of the Colegio recorded and uploaded a group performance accompanied by any Chinese opera soundtrack. They had various options available for their performance ranging from music, dancing, acting, mime, comedy, tragedy, acrobatics, and even martial arts.
The event started with quick opening remarks from Ms. Desiree Castillo, in both Mandarin and English language, followed by introducing the different activities that the audience could expect from the program, wherein Letranites speaking in Mandarin was the event’s first activity.
For the first showcase, the performance was about describing what it was like to go to a Chinese festival in Mandarin, which Mr. Chang Chieh-Yin performed. The performance was followed by a beautiful cover of a famous Chinese song, “Unbreakable Love”, performed by Ms. Milagrosa Ostia.
The emcees then proceeded to show the judging criteria for the Gala Performance Contest for those Letranites that participated in the competition and introduced the judges to assess their outputs and give their points. Furthermore, the event continued with a song from Ms. Mariane Jugar, titled “You Exist in My Song”. After the performance, the anticipating Gala Performance was finally conducted with different entries from the finalists showcasing different aspects and short stories that everyone was recommended to watch.
After the exhibition of the Gala Performance Entries, the results for the winners of the said contest were finally announced:
3rd place: Entry # 4 (Performance by Lawrence Munsayac, Alliah Importante, Sharlene Rabusa, and Jan Vincent Francisco)
2nd place: Entry # 2 (Names were not mentioned)
1st Place: Entry # 3 (Performance by Malaika Ivana Ngo, Aaron Kirkpatrick Lim, Cyd Arni Villamora, and Bryan Vincent Gemino)
The emcees then gave their closing remarks and thanked everyone for attending and participating in the Chinese New Year Virtual Celebration. With the community singing of Himno del Colegio, the SHS CNY Gala Celebration 2022 successfully concluded.
