MONDAY, February 28, 2022 - In recognition of Language Month, the Letran SHS Core Learning Area, in partnership with the Letran SHS Fourth Estate and the Letran SHS Erudites, held a virtual impromptu speaking competition with the theme, “Continued Resilience Amidst Uncertainties: The Power of Languages to Inform, Inspire, and Ignite the Passion in the World", through Google Meet from 9 AM to 12 PM.
The said competition seeks to challenge 10th-grade students from various schools nationwide to craft a well-structured speech in a short amount of time frame given, utilizing the English language. This also allows them to enhance their speaking abilities and boost their self-confidence in public speaking. During the competition proper, while the other candidates' spontaneous speeches are ongoing, the participants and trainers are requested to join in the holding room. They are then required to enter the Main Hall once their school is summoned. On the other hand they are asked to return to the holding room when their turn is finished.
Ms. Ma. Viel Cerize Antazo, the competition host, allowed each contestant two (2) minutes to prepare and six to seven (6-7) minutes to deliver an impromptu speech based on their topic. The judges finally tallied up the points, and only the top five participants will be able to advance to the final round. While waiting for the judges to finish the evaluation of the results, they also showcased some amazing performances from the Letran Impresarios Guild, such as a song cover.
The announcing of the final top 5 candidates then proceeded; Ms. Hannah Ingua from Concordia College Incorporated, Mr. Kyzer Javier from Escuela de Sophia Caloocan Incorporated, Ms. Eunyssa Fabay from La Consolacion College Caloocan, Ms. Candice Ballesteros from St. Mary’s Academy Pasay City, and to complete the line up of the top 5, Ms. Marian Comia from St. Mary’s Academy Sta. Ana, Manila.
During the final round, the preparation time was reduced to one (1) minute while the delivery time remained the same. Indeed, the top five students expressed their utmost knowledge and perspectives on the given topic, displaying confidence.
After each of the five contestants presented their speeches, the judges gave their final evaluations. Only three (3) lucky candidates will win prize money for their hard work. And finally, the winners for this year’s Interschool Impromptu Speaking Competition were then declared by Ms. Antazo;
2nd Runner-Up (₱500): Ms. Marian Dae E. Comia of St. Mary’s Academy of Sta. Ana, Manila
1st Runner-Up (₱1,000): Ms. Eunyssa Johnieve M. Fabay of La Consolacion College Caloocan
