Ms. Gilbert Class Procedures for 2024-2025 School Year
Food/Beverages
Students may bring water bottles or other capped drinks to class.
Gallon bottles and jugs are not permitted. No eating of meals in the classroom. If you want a small snack, ask permission and I will use my discretion
Arriving to Class
Please make sure to be on time for class. If you are late, please remember 3 lates = 1 absence. If you are more than 20 minutes late to class, then it is an absence. Passes from the main office, counselor, or nurse can excuse your lateness to class subject to verification. When a student reaches 16 absences, credit is lost.
**Please be aware that lateness can also impact your grade if you do not complete or finish tasks because of lateness.
Leaving the Classroom
One student may leave the room at a time. Students will be permitted to create up to 2 MINGA passes per week. A student must create a MINGA pass in order to leave the room. Student should not create MINGA pass until they get permission to leave to the room from Ms. Gilbert.
**Please be aware that being out of the room too long could result in an absence or tardy. It can also impact your grade if you do not complete or finish tasks because you are out too long
Absence from Class
You are responsible for checking your school email and Google Classroom on a daily basis. “I didn’t see your email” or “I didn’t check Google Classroom” are NOT excuses for missed assignments or work.
It is especially important to check if I am absent as I will leave information via email or Google Classroom for you. If you are absent, you should check both your school email and Google Classroom. For externship students, this is extremely important as you are responsible for any work done or assigned in class.
***You may also be proactive and contact me. If you miss class for a field trip, you are responsible for any work done or assigned in class. It is your responsibility to inform me ahead of time. Again, you should be checking your school email and Google Classroom to be up to date. If you have an in-school activity or practice during class, it is your responsibility to check in with me first. I must see any or receive any assignments that are due that day. If there is an assessment, you will not be excused.
Grading Procedures
Your grade will be calculated by adding all the points earned on graded assignments (tests, quizzes, class work, graded checks, do nows, samples, out of class assignments) and dividing by the total number of points.
Explanation of the types of graded assignments
1.) Quizzes and tests: These assignments are typically worth 40 to 100 points.
Please note: All quizzes and tests are announced in advance. You will not be excused from a test or quiz if you are absent the day before it is given.
2.) Class work: There are a variety of class work assignments: do nows/samples, graded checks, and general class work. Class work assignments vary in point value depending upon the length of the assignment. Each class work assignment will be assigned a specific point value. Many assignments are graded on a combination of correctness and completion. However, you are permitted to use your notes to complete assignments. In most cases, you may also use a calculator.
It is not always possible to “make up” classwork such as “do nows/samples.” If you are absent when these assignments are given, they will not be included in your point total/grade calculation.
3.) Out of Class Assignments (OCA): Assignments designated as OCA vary in point value depending upon the length of the assignment. Points earned will be based on completeness.
Extra Credit
I do not give extra credit for Math League or other testing. I also do not give individual extra credit to bring up your grade. Any extra credit opportunities will be made available to all students in a class.
OCA policy for the Mathematics Department
Students who are present in class and missing their assignment on the day it is due will not get credit. Once the corrections have been given out the assignment can no longer be accepted. *Students who are absent on the due date must present their work upon their return for credit.
*Please note: Google Classroom submissions may be required if a student is not present in class when a submission is due. Therefore, student should follow posted instructions and contact Ms. Gilbert with any concerns.
Long term projects that require more than a day will have a penalty of 10% for each day past the due date up to 5 days. After 5 days, the grade will result in a zero.
Class Materials
Chromebook
Pen or pencil
Notebook, binder, and/or folder
Calculator – scientific or graphing All Students are expected to have a calculator for class.
Calculators will not be provided.
***Phones may be collected at the start of class, so do not plan on using your phone in place of a calculator.
Tech Devices
Phones should be put away the start of each class. If your phone is being used during a lesson, you will be asked to put it away. If it continues to be a distraction, the phone will need to be handed into the teacher. The phone will be returned before the end of class or when lesson/tasks for the day are completed. If it is an ongoing issue, phone may be given to the vice principal.
Phones must be handed in for checks, quizzes, tests and when do nows or samples are given and collected. During assessments and tasks, you will need a calculator. You must provide your own calculator. I do not have a class set of calculators, nor can phones be used as calculators.
Other tech devices should be away during lessons and tasks. There will be times that Chromebook may be needed or helpful so please have yours with you
