This year for homework, you will be required to read at least 4 nights a week. Each time you read, you should be reading 20-30 pages.
You can borrow books from our class library, the school library, or you can bring in your own books. Independent reading books must be in class every day and brought home at night so that you can complete your reading homework. If you are getting close to finishing your book, make sure you have your next one picked out, so that you don’t waste time or find yourself with nothing to read.
You will be reflecting on your reading in various assignments and notes that you keep on the computer in google docs or slides. This work will be graded every few weeks, and you will be given advance notice of when your notes or assignments are due for a grade.
ELA Workshop is a class you will have on either A days or B days. This workshop class will be dedicated to writing. This year we will be writing personal narratives, literary essays, research-based informational websites, and graphic novels. Most of your drafting will be done right on Google Docs. This will allow you to easily share the document so that your peers and I can offer you feedback along the writing process. During the drafting process, there will be focus lessons to help you revise and edit before a final, published draft is due.
Always come to class prepared - that means you have your (charged) device and book and are ready on time.
Come to class with a great attitude that shows you are ready to work.
Be respectful and use polite language at all times.
Be productive! Do your BEST at all times.
Do all work that is assigned and make sure to complete it on time.
Don't be afraid to ask for help.
I use a points system for grading. Each assignment is worth a certain amount of points and your marking period grade is determined by the the number of points you earned out of the total possible points. Smaller assignments or classwork will be worth 5-10 points. Longer-term assignments like reading notebook work that is done over the course of a few days or weeks are usually 20-40 points. Quizzes and longer-term writing assignments are worth 20 points.
I am available after school, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-3:30pm.
I am looking forward to getting to know you all. Please remember the easiest way to do well is to follow directions and ask questions - especially if you don’t understand something. I'm always available to help.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Frasco
