Music & Movement with Mrs. D
Next Party: Glow in the Dark Dance Party
What's Happening in Music & Movement?
Students are getting familiar with the routines and expectations in the music & movement classroom. They are learning a song called "Music Rules," learning how to handle instruments, how to create personal space when moving around the classroom, and they are excited about earning music notes for their class! After earning 10 music notes, each class will celebrate with a special party!
Fall Fun!
To celebrate the fall season, students are learning song games such as Apple Tree, Let us Chase the Squirrel, Hop Old Squirrel, Pass the Pumpkin, Pumpkin Stew, The Leaves are Falling Down, Who Has the Pumpkin?, Turkey Pokey, and Albuquerque Turkey. In addition to learning how to sing these songs, they will learn simple accompaniments on instruments as well as movement games to reinforce learning.
Musical Concepts Being Taught
Priest Street students are learning the concepts of steady beat, tempo (slow/fast), dynamics (soft/ loud), rhythm (reading and speaking rhythms such as quarter notes and eighth notes,) low vs. high pitch, critical listening, improvisation, singing techniques, solo singing, and notes on the scale (sol/ mi). They will also learn terms such as coordination, staccato, piano, forte, largo, allegro, presto, and many more! They will be moving their bodies in some way every class, whether it be through dance, imaginative play, whole group movement, or physical activities promoting hand/ eye coordination.
About Mrs. D
Angie Dahlstrom has been the music & movement teacher at Priest Street Elementary since 2018. She has her degree in music education from the University of Valley Forge, and is currently pursuing her master's degree in music technology . She has been playing the piano since the age of 6 and singing since she could talk, so music is a big part of her life! She also plays guitar and ukulele. Kindergarten is by far her favorite age group to work with, so Priest Street is a perfect fit for her!
