IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM
Thursday 26th February 26
I am writing to inform you about an upcoming trip for Year 6 students to the Imperial War Museum. As part of our study of World War II in history, we will be visiting the museum to learn more about this significant period of time.
The trip will take place on Thursday 26th February and will cost £5 per child which covers the cost of the workshop.
All students are required to be at school by 8:10 AM for an 8:25 AM departure via public transport. We will be leaving promptly so please ensure your child is on time. Your child needs to bring a packed lunch and water bottle in a small bag which they will be required to carry on them. The school can provide a packed lunch, please email the office by 02/02/26. They will need to wear school uniform and can wear trainers.
During our visit to the museum, we will have the opportunity to:
Explore the museum's exhibits: The Imperial War Museum houses a vast collection of artefacts, photographs, and documents that tell the story of World War II. Students will have the chance to see these firsthand and learn about the experiences of people who lived through this conflict.
Engage in a workshop: We will participate in a specially designed workshop that will help us develop historical inquiry skills. Through this digitally–led experience, students will learn to question, consider, debate, and evaluate primary sources. They will also gain a deeper understanding about the impact of war and conflict on people’s lives in the past, and its relevance in society today.
Reflect on the impact of war: The field trip will provide us with an opportunity to reflect on the impact of war on people's lives. We will discuss the causes and consequences of World War II, and we will consider the ongoing impact of conflict on communities around the world.
We will be finishing at the museum at approximately 1:30-2pm and coming back to school afterwards, aiming to be back between 3-3:30pm.
Please do not hesitate to contact the Year 6 Team if you have any questions.

We are very excited to announce that Cheam Fields has worked with LEO Academy Trust to organise a residential trip to Isle of Wight from 13-17 July 2026 for our Year 6 pupils. We are very fortunate to have secured a booking as it is an extremely popular venue with school groups. We would like to offer the opportunity for your child to take part in this trip.
The cost of the visit will be £450 this includes accommodation, full board, insurance and a full programme of activities.
We feel it is important that all our pupils have access to the wider opportunities offered by our Trust. If you are experiencing any financial difficulties please contact your child’s teacher or if you prefer the school office. Any communication will be held in strict confidence.
You can find out more about our residential trip to Isle Of Wight through our online presentation:
Year 6 - Isle of Wight with IOW Experience
Residential trips organised by the school are, of course, an optional but invaluable part of the National Curriculum. Pupils benefit hugely from the experience, both educationally and socially and we feel certain that the trip we have chosen this year will prove to be both enjoyable and very worthwhile.
There will be a meeting for the parents closer to the trip to give you more information about packing, your child being away from home and the exciting range of activities which will be available for them.
In order to help you spread the cost of this trip, you will be able to pay the balance in instalments via Arbor. As an example, you could pay £50 per month from October - May.
It is your responsibility to ensure the trip is fully paid by 31st May 2026. Arbor will not prompt you for a monthly payment so please set a reminder to make this payment. Arbor allows you to pay the outstanding balance or additional payments at any time.
In March 2026 we will ask you to confirm that you still would like your child to attend. If your child no longer wishes to attend you will lose your non refundable deposit of £50. After this time we need to make you aware of the cancellation policy and charges which are as follows:
Cancel more than 70 days prior to departure - Loss of deposit = £50
Cancel between 22 and 70 days - Loss of 60% of total price = £270
Cancel between 0 and 21 days - Loss of 100% of total price = £450
