As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.

SCHOOL UNIFORM
Please click here for the Brookfield School Uniform Information you can also find the relevant links for suppliers to purchase uniform.
Our policy on school uniform is based on the notion that school uniform:
promotes a sense of pride in the school;
engenders a sense of community and belonging towards the school;
is practical and smart;
identifies the children with the school;
prevents children from coming to school in fashion clothes that could be distracting in class;
makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance;
is regarded as suitable wear for school and good value for money by most parents;
is designed with health and safety in mind
PE SCHEDULE
On PE days, children should wear their PE kit to school and stay in their PE kit all day. The PE kit must be the Brookfield Primary PE kit or colours and not other sports wear (e.g. Nike, Adidas etc).
For more information on the required PE kit please refer to our uniform information (above).
On these sports days, children must have their hair tied up and not be wearing any jewellery - watches can be left in the classroom during the PE lesson and earrings must be left at home. If earrings cannot be removed, they must be covered prior to coming to school.
On non PE days, if your child is attending a before school club, they must bring in their school uniform to change into. If they are attending an after school club, they must bring their PE kit to change into. For any specific events/tournaments, a kit may be provided.
ABSENCE & ATTENDANCE
The higher a pupil’s attendance, the more they are likely to learn, and the better they are likely to perform in exams and formal assessments.
Data from 2019 shows that 84% of Key Stage 2 pupils who had 100% attendance achieved the expected standard, compared to 40% of pupils who were persistently absent across the key stage.
What if my child needs to miss school?
Parents and carers have a legal responsibility to ensure your child attends school regularly. Persistent unauthorised absence could lead to court action, including fines.
There are only a small number of circumstances where missing a school day is permitted. Your child must attend every day that the school is open, unless:
Your child is too ill to attend - please refer to our 'my child is unwell' document for more information on whether your child can attend school
You have asked in advance and been given permission by the school for your child to be absent on a specific day due to exceptional circumstances.
Your child cannot go to school on a specific day because they are observing a religious event.
What counts as an exceptional circumstance?
Principals are responsible for deciding what counts as an exceptional circumstance when it comes to a child missing school. They will look at each application individually, considering the specific facts and background context. If a leave of absence is granted, the school will decide how long the pupil can be away from school. Holidays are very rarely an acceptable reason for a school absence and are unlikely to be treated as an exceptional circumstance.
We know that children having good attendance and punctuality has a direct impact on progress in school. Children who attend frequently are far more likely to achieve academic success than those with poor attendance who tend to fall behind in their learning.
Please can we remind all parents/carers that if your child is going to be absent from school that you use the Brookfield Absence Form (instead of leaving a message on the answerphone).
We know that illness is unavoidable and to be expected. Knowing whether pupils are going to be absent from school and the reasons for any absences is an important safeguarding issue for the school.
It is therefore, vitally important that if your child is not going to be in school that you complete our the form by 9:15am.
Please note that you ONLY need to complete the form if your child is off school you do not need to call and leave a message.
If for any reason you are unable to access the form then please either call the school and leave a message on the school absence line on 020 8644 8616 opt 1 (you do not need to speak to a member of the office staff) or email the office on: bfoffice@leoacademytrust.co.uk.
Please note that if your child is unwell for 5 or more days, medical evidence may be requested.
Please refer to our 'my child is unwell' document for more information on when your child should return to school.
Approval for leave must be applied for BEFORE organising any travel plans. Leave will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances.
Please fill in the form: Special Leave Request Form
SCHOOL MEALS
We operate a coloured bands system for our school meals so that the children do not have to remember what they have ordered each day. The list of their daily choices along with the appropriate meal colour lanyard or sticker will be provided to the class teacher each morning and these will then be handed to the children at lunchtime.
Our school meals are cooked on site and the varied menus rotate on a three weekly basis. The menus can also be found on our website: https://www.brookfieldprimary.com/725/school-meals
Children can choose to have school lunches every day, a combination of days or just one day a week but we do ask parents to help them choose their daily choices at the start of every week to help with the smooth running of the kitchen.
Red - Meat Option / Green - Vegetarian Option / Blue - Halal Option / Orange - Pasta/Jacket Potato - (Option every other day)
Grab and Go - Neon Pink - Meat / Neon Green - Veg (Years 5 & 6 only)
We also offer Special Menus throughout the year, e.g. a Bonfire Menu and Christmas Menu to try and keep the lunches interesting and varied.
Children in Reception, Years 1 and 2 receive Universal Free School Meals. From September 2023 children in Years 3 to 6 will also receive Free School Meals.
Please can we still urge you to apply for Free School Meals if you think you might qualify. Even though all children will receive universal free school meals from September, FSM/PP eligibility can open up a wealth of opportunities and allows the school to get extra funding. Please click on the following link to check if you are eligible for Free School Meals (PP).
KS2 CHROMEBOOKS
All pupils in Years 3,4,5 & 6 are supplied with their own chromebook, charger and case which is used at school but is also taken home.
In order to take these chromebooks home, consent must be given. All parents/carers must watch the attached video first and complete the consent form agreeing to the terms stated in the video. As LEO is paying and providing all of the chromebooks, it is essential that the chromebooks are looked after as some damage is not covered by the insurance (as stated in the video).
Your child will only be able to take their chromebook home once the consent form has been signed and returned. When being used at home, please monitor what your child accesses and encourage them to use the correct internet safety. It is essential that these devices are fully charged ready for school day as it is not feasible to charge a class worth of chromebooks in school.
