This Week at Manor Park
Superhero Dress-Up & Role-Play Comes to Year 1
Year 1 have had a fantastic start to their new writing unit based on the popular children's book series, 'Supertato'. Pupils have truly brought the story to life through engaging acting and role-play activities, even donning colourful superhero costumes to fully immerse themselves in the world of 'Supertato'. This imaginative play has been instrumental in developing their speaking and listening skills, with a particular focus on character development through voice acting and movement.
Pupils have begun writing character descriptions of the heroic 'Supertato' himself, and we are looking forward to them creating their own unique super-vegetable heroes next week. We are incredibly excited to share their imaginative creations with you all soon!
Mathematical Fun and Games in Reception
Across Reception, pupils have been developing their mathematical fluency through counting and recognising numbers. Singing number songs has proven to be a particularly engaging and effective method for reinforcing number recognition and order. This focus on foundational number skills has equipped our pupils with the confidence to explore more complex mathematical concepts.
Building upon their counting skills, pupils have delved into the world of number bonds. By utilising the part-part-whole model, they have demonstrated a strong understanding of how numbers can be decomposed and combined. This hands-on approach has facilitated a deeper comprehension of number relationships and laid the groundwork for future mathematical learning. Well done all!
Exploring Disabilities Through LYFTA
This week, pupils across the school enthusiastically participated in online LYFTA sessions focused on developing a deeper understanding of disabilities. These engaging sessions provided a valuable platform for pupils to learn about the diverse range of human experiences and challenge misconceptions. Through immersive activities and thought-provoking discussions, our pupils demonstrated a genuine eagerness to embrace inclusivity and celebrate the unique contributions of every individual.
Year 3 pupils were particularly captivated by their live LYFTA session, which delved into the topic of disability and protected characteristics. The session sparked insightful conversations and inspired pupils to explore new perspectives. Furthermore, each class had the opportunity to acquire basic sign language skills, practicing with one another to communicate simple instructions and tasks.
We eagerly anticipate our next LYFTA session and the continued growth and learning it will undoubtedly develop within our school community.
Sports at Manor Park
Y5 & Y6 Girls Surrey Cup Football Match
This week, our valiant girls' football team took to the pitch for an exciting Surrey Cup match.
Despite a hard-fought battle and impressive displays of teamwork and skill, the girls narrowly lost to a strong opposing team. We commend our pupils for their dedication, sportsmanship, and impressive effort throughout the game. They represented the school with pride, demonstrating the true spirit of Manor Park both on and off the field. A special thank you to Mr. Batt for his support and coaching.
Year 6 LEO Panathlon Success
Earlier this week, several Year 6 pupils took part in the LEO Sports Panathlon event to much success! They showed great teamwork when completing each activity and achieved brilliant results, finishing in 1st place! Well done to everyone involved.
We are proud of our pupils' sportsmanship, teamwork, and determination. They have demonstrated the school's values of respect, responsibility, and perseverance. We are committed to providing all our pupils with opportunities to develop their sporting abilities and compete in a range of sports.
