Our school choir traveled to the O2 arena this week to participate in the spectacular Young Voices concert. After weeks of practice, the students finally joined thousands of other children to perform as one massive, synchronised ensemble. They showcased their incredible vocal talents and impressive dance moves throughout a high-energy evening of entertainment. It was a proud moment for our school community as we watched our singers shine on such a grand stage.
This week, our pupils travelled to the Bett Show in London to participate in an engaging live lesson hosted by Olex AI. During the session, the children showcased their impressive editing skills by refining various pieces of digital content. They led thoughtful discussions on how to critically evaluate and improve their work using the latest technology. It was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to demonstrate their literacy and tech-savviness on a national stage.
As part of their English and Literacy development, pupils explored the story of The Gruffalo, which helped them develop their storytelling and descriptive language skills. To express their creativity, the pupils designed and constructed their own Gruffalo masks based on the characters from our focus story.
In our study of nocturnal animals, pupils identified various creatures that stay awake at night and practiced their listening skills by guessing different animal sounds.
In Mathematics, the pupils successfully identified repeated patterns found on animal coats and clothing, such as socks, to improve their visual recognition. Pupils demonstrated excellent logic by matching similar patterns and categorising items that shared the same visual sequences. Finally, our pupils progressed to studying "AB" patterns and showed great independence by creating their own original pattern sequences.
In their writing lessons, pupils learned how to write postcards and sent a special message to Mr Perrott. They practiced using capital letters for names and places while using descriptive adjectives to share details about London landmarks.
In Mathematics, pupils focused on building strong number skills by comparing and ordering numbers up to 20. They also successfully practiced finding one more and one less than a given number.
As part of their Geography lessons, the children developed their map skills by giving clear directions using the words left, right, forwards, and backwards. Alongside their map work, pupils demonstrated excellent memory by recalling important facts about famous landmarks across London.
In Art, pupils explored the technique of collagraphy. They used various textures to create unique prints inspired by different weather patterns and motifs before providing feedback during our whole-class gallery sessions.
This week, pupils have been studying the story The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch to learn how to write clear instructions for making a sandwich. They successfully practiced using "bossy" verbs, adverbs, and time connectives to sequence their writing.
In Mathematics, the children completed their unit on money by solving complex word problems. They have now begun learning about multiplication and division, with a specific focus on making and adding equal groups.
During our Science materials topic, pupils investigated how the properties of different items decide their use. They conducted a practical experiment to test which types of paper were the most absorbent, strong, or smooth.
In our first Religious Education lesson on Buddhism, pupils explored the life of the Buddha. They discussed his history and learned why he is such an important figure to many people around the world.
In Computing, the pupils were introduced to the concept of an "algorithm" as a set of instructions. To practice this, they created their own precise algorithms to help a partner draw a sketch of a monster.
In their writing lessons, pupils explored the story of The Firework Maker’s Daughter and applied their skills to write formal persuasive letters to much success!
During Maths sessions, pupils investigated number patterns in multiplication, learning how to use known multiplication facts to solve more complex problems.
In Geography, pupils developed their map skills by exploring the concepts of latitude and longitude to locate different places around the world.
In RE, the children looked at the faith of Judaism and discussed the significant role of Moses within the religion.
During French, pupils reviewed their previous learning and practiced their vocabulary for different animals.
Throughout these subjects, our pupils showed great curiosity and worked hard to build on their existing knowledge.
In English, pupils applied their descriptive language skills to write detailed setting descriptions of a tea plantation nestled within a valley.
During Maths lessons, the children mastered division by using both the "sharing into groups" method and the formal "bus stop" technique.
In Art, the pupils explored various drawing effects by experimenting with the unique properties of pen, ink, and charcoal.
Our young scientists investigated the three states of matter—solids, liquids, and gases—to understand their different properties and behaviours.
As part of Geography, the children studied the physical features of mountains, successfully identifying elements such as the slope, ridge, and summit on real-world examples.
Throughout these subjects, pupils used technical vocabulary and practical tools to deepen their understanding of the world around them.
In Physical Education, all pupils participated in an energetic intra-class dodgeball tournament, demonstrating excellent teamwork and sportsmanship. We shared a special "well done" to Maisy for her outstanding effort and performance during the dodgeball competition.
In our technology sessions, pupils used the Lego Spike programming kits to build and code their very own "personal trainer" robots. Our pupils developed their digital art skills by using the Kleki software to produce detailed drawings of natural forms, such as fruit.
In Mathematics, pupils successfully began their new curriculum topic on fractions, where they started exploring how to name and write different parts of a whole.
As part of their Reading and Drama, to deepen their understanding of the book The Girl Who Stole an Elephant, pupils took part in "hotseating" activities, acting as the character Chaya to answer questions about her journey.
In English, pupils explored the historic expedition of Captain Scott to Antarctica and used his journey as inspiration to begin writing their own formal diary entries.
In their maths lessons, the pupils developed their understanding of decimals by mastering place value, rounding numbers, and performing additions.
Our young artists studied the traditional techniques of Inuit stencil art and practised using watercolours to create their own vibrant pieces. Additionally, as part of Design Technology, pupils acted as engineers by examining different types of bridges, comparing their structures and learning how they support weight.
In Geography, pupils investigated the unique environment of the Polar regions, specifically learning about the natural phenomena of polar day and polar night. By linking our Geography and English topics, pupils gained a deeper appreciation for the cold climates and the challenges faced by polar explorers.

Charity Appeal: New Pyjama Donations
We are pleased to announce that our school is supporting a charity appeal to provide brand-new pyjamas for children in hospitals, hospices, and women’s safe houses.
For many children in these settings, arriving with very few personal belongings is a common reality. A new pair of pyjamas can provide a sense of comfort and dignity during a challenging time. We invite our school community to participate in this collection if they are able to do so.
To ensure the donations are suitable for the children’s needs, the charity has requested the following:
Condition: All items must be brand new.
Sizes: Pyjamas for all ages are welcome, from newborn through to adult sizes (for older teenagers).
Style: Both boys' and girls' styles are needed.
Fabric: The charity kindly requests non-fleecy pyjamas where possible, as hospital wards and clinical environments are often kept at high temperatures.
If you would like to contribute, please bring your donations to the school office. All donations should be submitted by Friday 13th February.
If you have any questions regarding this appeal, please feel free to contact the office for further clarification. Thank you in advance for your kindness and support of this cause.
We are thrilled to announce that for the upcoming academic year, Manor Park Primary School will be officially supporting The Paul Alan Project as our dedicated school charity. This is a fantastic opportunity for our children to learn about community safety, emergency skills, and the importance of quick action in critical situations.
The Paul Alan Project is a volunteer-run charity with the vital mission of saving lives through emergency preparedness. They are dedicated to preventing cardiac arrest deaths in the UK by focusing on three core areas:
Free Lifesaving Training: They provide FREE basic life support training (including how to perform CPR and confidently use a defibrillator) to individuals and organisations in the community.
Defibrillator Provision: They raise funds to install Public Access Defibrillators (PADs) and Bleed Control Kits in communities, particularly in parks and residential areas where provision is often poor.
Awareness: They raise awareness of the signs of cardiac arrest and the difference a quick response can make.
Our 2025/2026 Fundraising Goal: £2,000 for Manor Park
This money will be used to purchase and install a 24/7 Public Access Defibrillator (PAD) and a Bleed Control Kit in Manor Park. This vital equipment will be accessible to our entire local community, serving as a critical resource in a medical emergency.
How Manor Park Will Get Involved
Throughout the year, we will be holding various exciting events and activities designed to promote awareness and raise money for The Paul Alan Project. Details of these events will be shared with you soon.
