Year 6 Special - Kingswood Residential
Year 6 had a fantastic time on their recent residential trip to Kingswood earlier this week! The pupils embraced every activity with enthusiasm and showed great courage and determination throughout.
Throughout the residential, our pupils demonstrated amazing teamwork during the abseiling challenge, where they cheered each other on and helped with unclipping harnesses. Archery was a popular activity, with many pupils discovering a hidden talent for hitting the bullseye! Jacob's Ladder proved to be a thrilling test of nerve and agility, while the zip line provided an exhilarating, if somewhat wet, experience. The Leap of Faith brought out the daredevils in many, and exploring the caves allowed pupils to demonstrate their adventurous spirit. Rock climbing was a highlight, with pupils putting their newly learned skills to the test to reach the top. Finally, the week culminated in a lively disco where everyone danced the night away, celebrating a truly memorable trip. Well done Year 6!
Thorpe Park Steam Event
Year 5 embarked on an exciting trip to Thorpe Park, where they combined the thrills of a theme park with engaging STEAM learning opportunities. The day was filled with both education and entertainment, creating a memorable experience for all. Of course, no trip to Thorpe Park would be complete without experiencing the exhilarating rides! The children enjoyed the adrenaline rush of rollercoasters, the refreshing splashes of water rides, and the captivating views from soaring attractions. The combination of educational activities and thrilling rides created a unique and balanced day out.
The trip to Thorpe Park provided a valuable opportunity for Year 5 pupils to engage with STEAM subjects in a dynamic and enjoyable way. It developed their curiosity, encouraged teamwork, and created lasting memories of a day filled with learning and laughter.
EXCELL Centre London New Scientists Event
Year 6 recently embarked on an exciting trip to the EXCELL Centre to participate in a special New Scientist event dedicated to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths). The day was packed with engaging activities and thought-provoking challenges designed to ignite our pupils' curiosity and inspire a love for these crucial subjects. Throughout the day, the children had the opportunity to engage with a range of interactive exhibits and workshops. They explored the fascinating world of coding and robotics, delved into the mysteries of space and the human body, and even got creative with hands-on art projects that incorporated scientific principles.
The event provided a fantastic opportunity for our Year 6 pupils to experience STEAM subjects in a dynamic and engaging way, developing a deeper understanding of how these areas intertwine and contribute to our world. It was wonderful to see the children's enthusiasm and excitement as they embraced each new learning opportunity.
EYFS Nursery and Reception
It's been a busy and exciting time in Reception this week!
In Nursery and Reception, our pupils have been embracing the spooky season with some fantastic bubble art! They have also been exploring all things autumn, developing our fine motor skills by threading leaves, practising our cutting skills with number sorting activities, and reading pumpkin books to match pictures. Inspired by the wonderful book "Leaf Man" by Lois Ehlert, our pupils even went on an autumn walk to collect colourful leaves and other treasures. Back in the classroom, they used their finds to create their very own Leaf Men! And of course, no autumn adventure would be complete without some delicious treats! They had a fantastic time making cucumber sandwiches and enjoying an indoor picnic with our friends.
Well done Reception, keep up the amazing work!
Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3
What an exciting and vibrant week it's been in Year 1, 2 and 3. From tackling important topics like racism to blasting off into space, our pupils have shown incredible enthusiasm and engagement.
Year 3 embraced technology, using AI tools to bring their Stone Age suspense narratives to life. Their creative thinking and confidence shone through as they used voice recording to capture their ideas. A huge well done to Alvin in Year 3 for completing the first 144 of the year – what a fantastic achievement in maths! Year 2 had a blast with a hands-on science experiment, vividly demonstrating how quickly germs can spread. They also transformed into news reporters, exploring the inspiring journey of Mae Jemison, the first African American woman in space. Year 1 finished off the week by proudly wearing red to support "Show Racism the Red Card," demonstrating their understanding of the importance of equality and respect. Their beautiful artwork celebrating Black History Month and Nelson Mandela truly captured their dreams for a better world.
It's wonderful to see our pupils embracing such diverse learning experiences. Keep up the fantastic work!
Year 4 and Year 5
What an exciting week it's been for our Year 4's and Year 5's.
A huge well done to all our Year 4 mathematicians who aced their times tables tests this Friday! It's wonderful to see such dedication to learning, and those certificates are well-deserved. We were also treated to a fantastic Express and Share assembly where Year 4 taught us all about the Anglo-Saxons. Their 'Invasion' topic certainly seems to have captured their imaginations! Meanwhile, our Year 5 pupils enjoyed their last Forest School session of the term at Manor Park. From slingshot skills to pumpkin carving, they embraced the outdoors and had a brilliant time.
Finally, our pupils enjoyed 'Wear Red Day!' to stand together against racism and show our support for a more inclusive and welcoming world.
Year 4 Cross Country Event
A huge well done to the Year 4 children who took part in the Sutton Sports Partnership (SPP) Year 4 Cross Country event this week. Despite the chilly weather, our runners showed incredible stamina and perseverance as they tackled the course. We are so proud of everyone who participated – you all demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship and determination. Well done everyone!
