This responsibility necessitates a child protection policy and procedures which are available to view on the website, or a copy can be requested from the School Office. Half Term
As you all know, Friday the 14th February is our last school day before half term. The school will finish at normal Friday times and all after school clubs will be running throughout the week including on Friday. Please collect your children promptly after the clubs have finished.
Reminder Monday the 24th February is our fist day back to school.
Please check your email and/or the weekly school newsletter for information about activities happening during the half term break led by LEO Sports.
Express and Share Assemblies for Years 3
Year 3 Express and Share Assembly is to be held on Thursday 13th February 2025 at 9:10 am and at 2:00 pm.
Following these assemblies, you will then be invited back to the classrooms to support the children with their learning based on their current topic. Siblings are welcome to attend the assembly but unfortunately will not be able to go into the classrooms due to the lack of space.
As with all of our assemblies and performances, we politely ask parents/carers arrive promptly to prevent disruption to the children’s presentation. When photographing your children in school performances, events and productions, please use small cameras only to ensure that you are not interfering with the view of other parents. Also, when posting photographs of school events on social media e.g. Facebook, please ensure that you are only posting pictures of your child. Parental consent has not been obtained for you to include photographs of other children who may be present in your pictures.
Lateness
The school day begins promptly at 8:30am, with registration closing at 8:45am. It is essential that all children are present in class by this time to ensure they are prepared and ready for the day.
Impact of Lateness:
Disruption to the Class: Late arrivals disrupt the flow of lessons and distract other pupils.
Missed Learning: Children who are late miss crucial instructions and learning at the start of the day, making it harder to catch up.
Impact on the Child: Children can feel anxious walking into a class when the lesson has already started. Regular lateness can affect a child's self-esteem and create a sense of anxiety.
Importance of Punctuality:
Developing good habits: Being on time teaches children important life skills such as responsibility, organisation, and respect for others.
Ready to learn: Arriving on time allows children to settle in, prepare their belongings, and complete ‘early morning work’ which prepares them for upcoming lessons.
Positive start to the day: A calm and punctual start sets a positive tone for the entire school day.
Strategies to Help:
Establish a consistent morning routine: Set clear expectations for getting ready and leaving the house on time.
Prepare the night before: Pack school bags, lay out uniforms, and make lunches in advance.
Allow plenty of time: Factor in potential traffic or unexpected delays.
Communicate with the school: If unavoidable circumstances cause your child to be late, please inform the school as soon as possible.
We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring your child arrives at school on time. By working together, we can create a positive and productive learning environment for all our pupils.
Please can we politely remind you of the importance of parking safely around the school entrances. Parking is strictly prohibited outside the school gates and our children's safety is compromised by anyone who stops on the zigzag lines or on the corner of Warwick and Greyhound Road. We also ask you to be considerate of our neighbours in surrounding roads and therefore not to park across driveways at drop off and pick up times. They, too, could be parents who need to collect children from school and would be unable to get their car off the drive. Thank you for your co-operation.
Lost Property
Next week, during the final week of the half term, our lost property trolley will be on the playground at the end of the day. This will be your last opportunity to check it, if your child has lost any item in the last academic year. Unclaimed items at the end of last day of term, 14th February, will be cleared and donated to the 'Bertie Bin'.
Headlice
It has come to our attention a child in Year 5 has picked up head lice. Please ensure that you check your child's hair over the next few days.
As a reminder, once treated, head lice can often return a few weeks later, therefore we please ask all parents to be vigilant and check their children’s hair on a daily basis. By combing your child’s hair with a head lice comb you will disable the lice so that they cannot breed and they die!
We need your support if we are to stop the spread of head lice.
Many thanks for your co-operation.

Earlier this week, our Year 5 and 6 students had a fantastic day at the London Careers Festival!
The excitement began with a breathtaking view of St. Paul's Cathedral as they traveled to the event before exploring a variety of professions. From budding medical professionals investigating heart rates and oxygen levels with the help of some friendly nurses, to getting hands-on with carpentry and joinery, discovering the skills involved in these trades, the festival provided insights into various vital public services. One particular highlight came in the form of a rather engaging session on the roles of firefighters and police officers, where our pupils had a chance to try on a real bulletproof vest!
Overall, the day was a resounding success, inspiring our pupils to think about their future careers and the many wonderful opportunities available to them.
World Mental Health Week proved a valuable experience for pupils across the school. All year groups engaged enthusiastically with the various activities. The school community benefited from the focus on mental health awareness.
In Year 5, pupils explored their mental well being, expressing sources of happiness and positive moods through drawing and writing. In Year 1, they enjoyed the story of 'The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse,' discussing kindness and celebrating their unique qualities. They then participated in activities designed to identify what brought them joy. Year 6 focused on emotions, learning about their importance and the value of open communication. They creatively expressed themselves by designing personal feelings trees. The week successfully encouraged pupils to reflect on their mental health and develop strategies for emotional well being.
Year 1 pupils proudly showcased their hard work to parents and guardians during their 'Express and Share' assembly. The children had thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Great Fire of London and eagerly shared their newfound knowledge. Following the assembly, parents and guardians were invited into the classroom to join in a creative art activity alongside their children. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to share their learning journey and for families to engage in a hands-on activity.
Reception children enjoyed exploring the story, "Handa's Surprise."
They immersed themselves in the vibrant world of the book, captivated by Handa's journey and the array of animals and fruits she encountered. Pupils enthusiastically enjoyed creating colourful drawings of the various animals featured in the story. The children also enjoyed painting the many fruits that Handa carried in her basket. Beyond drawing, the class engaged in a hands-on craft activity. They thoroughly enjoyed designing and constructing their own African-inspired necklaces, stringing beads and other materials together.
Well done to all our Reception pupils for showing the LEO Explorer value, 'Creativity'
This week, a group of Year 3 and 4 pupils represented our school at the Sutton Sports Partnership's New Age Kurling event. The children worked exceptionally hard as a team, demonstrating excellent communication and support for one another. They embraced the challenge of learning a new sport, showing great resilience and determination throughout the competition. All the pupils involved displayed fantastic sportsmanship and a positive attitude. They were a credit to the school and their families. Well done to all the children who participated.
