Manor Park Primary Academy
Weekly Notices and Reminders
Friday 6th September 2024
Learning, Excellence and Opportunity
Manor Park Primary Academy School has a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. This responsibility necessitates a child protection policy and procedures which are available to view on the website, or a copy can be requested from the School Office. Our designated Child Protection Officers are Ms. Thomas and Ms. Laing. Information may need to be shared with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. Manor Park Primary Academy is committed to gender, racial, religion and disability equality in every part of school life.
Welcome and Introduction
Welcome Back
This is our first Weekly Notices and Reminder Sheet of the new academic year and we would like to offer a warm Manor Park welcome to all our new families starting in Foundation Stage and throughout the school as well as our new teaching and support staff. We hope you all had wonderful Summer break.
We will be including some general reminders in our Weekly Notices and Reminders sheet in the coming weeks for the benefit of our new parents/carers and which we hope you will find useful. The Weekly Notices and Reminder Sheet is sent out every Friday and includes dates of forthcoming events, school visits and workshops and important messages and reminders about school life.
School Notices and Reminders
New Start and End of Day Times
We are making some small changes to the timings of the school day which are outlined below.
Drop off in the morning - Year 1 - 6
Doors will open at 8.30am and children will be expected to be in their class for the register at 8.45am
End of the Day*
Year 1, 2 and 3
The school day will officially end on Monday - Thursdays at 3.30 pm and 2.15 pm on Friday.
Year 4, 5 and 6
The school day will officially end on Monday - Thursdays at 3.40 pm and 2:25 pm on Friday.
*These changes will continue to avoid congestion on the playground at the end of day.
After school clubs will continue to run until 4.30pm.
Timings for Nursery & Reception will remain as they are.
Contact with your Child's Class Teacher
Due to the large number of emails coming into the office, we would ask that if you have a question or concern about your child, please talk to their teacher at home-time in the playground. If a longer meeting is required, please arrange a telephone appointment with the class teacher via the school office, indicating the reason for your request so that the teacher is prepared and able to deal with your concerns.
Absence through Illness
If your child is unwell and will not be coming to school, please inform the office by 10.00am via the School Website Reporting Absence Link. If you are unsure whether your child needs to be at home, for example after the initial symptoms of illness have eased, bring them to the school office and we will be happy to monitor them and call you if necessary. We often find that being in school and seeing their friends takes their mind off feeling a little under the weather.
Appointment through the School Day
Please try to make dental and G.P appointments after school wherever possible to minimise gaps in your child's learning. We require a copy of letters for hospital appointments, visits to embassies or passport offices, and high school entrance exams to enable us to authorise these appointments . We can photocopy the original documents, if necessary.
Parking Safely Around School Entrances
Please can we politely remind you of the importance of parking safely around the school entrances. Parking is strictly prohibited outside the school gates and our children's safety is compromised by anyone who stops on the zigzag lines or on the corner of Warwick and Greyhound Road. We also ask you to be considerate of our neighbours in surrounding roads and therefore not to park across driveways at drop off and pick up times. They, too, could be parents who need to collect children from school and would be unable to get their car off the drive. Thank you for your co-operation.
Social Media Guidelines
Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter etc. should not be used for any school related comments and the complaints and concerns procedures should be followed. If you wish to share, confidentially, parents who are using sites inappropriately, please let us know and we a will be happy to speak to them. All contact between staff and parents should be conducted with politeness whether this is in meetings or on social media. The following guidelines should be followed:
Parents should use social networking sites or messaging groups sites only as a forum to support one another and uphold the strong reputation of the school.
Parents should not post pictures of pupils, other than their own children, on social networking sites.
Parents should not post inappropriate comments about the school and its staff, parents or individual children on social networking sites or messaging groups.
Parents should share complaints or concerns through official school channels rather than posting them on social networking sites or messaging groups.
Many thanks for your continued support.
Safety in the School Playground
May we please remind you of the following safety rules which must be followed within the school grounds before and after school:
No scooters or cycles to be ridden around the playgrounds.
No using any of the apparatus in the playgrounds including Foundation Unit.
Children should remain with their parents and carers at all times until they come into the buildings in the morning or whilst they wait for siblings after school.
Thank you for your co-operation.
Health and Safety Notice-No Nuts in School
Some of our children have serious nut allergies which can be life threatening. Please try to make sure that your child does not bring nuts into school. No peanut butter or Nutella sandwiches, snack bars or biscuits containing nuts and no small boxes of nuts and raisins please.
Equipment Reminder
May we please remind you that children should bring all their equipment into school with them in the morning. PE kits should be in school permanently until they are taken home at half term for washing. Charged Chromebooks should be brought in every day for learning. Pencil cases and other stationery are not required as these are provided by the school. Swimming kits must be brought in on the allocated swim day and a child should always bring their lunch box and water bottle into school as it helps them to remember if they having a packed lunch or a school dinner on that day. As Autumn, and subsequently Winter, approaches the children should always have a coat with them.
Thank you for your co-operation. This will ensure that all children are well prepared for their day and limits the disruption to learning when things come in late and have to be taken to the class
Cool Milk - Price Increase
Cool Milk has advised that the cost, for this academic year, will be 31p per carton of semi skimmed milk, per day. Milk remains free of charge for children under the age of 5. If you have any queries, please telephone Cool Milk on 0800 321 3248, or contact Miss Tok in the school office.

General Notices and Reminders
Free School Meals
The Mayor of London's Free School Meals initiative has been extended until July 2025, providing all children in years 3-6 in state-funded London schools with free school meals. Please see this flyer for more information.
Free School Uniforms
Sutton Community Uniform Bank provides free school uniforms for 4 - 18 year olds (they are unable to provide footwear). There is no eligibility to use this service (it is open to anyone with a child or young person who needs a school uniform). Please share with your families more information on support for school uniform costs as we approach a new academic term very soon as parents may require support on this.
Flu Vaccination Programme Guidance
This autumn term, all school children in England will be offered a flu vaccination in school. This can help protect children against flu, reduce absence and reduce transmission within the community – including the likelihood of teachers catching flu from pupils. Updated guidance for primary and secondary schools is now available.
Sutton High School
Sutton High School GDST will be holding an opening morning on Saturday, 21st September at 9am. Families must book to attend via the website.
Sutton High school is hoping to welcome lots of our wonderful families to hear from our Head and some of our students as they share what they love about their school. Families will be able to enjoy individual tours with our enthusiastic (and honest!) student tour guides, and the registrar will be available to answer any questions they may have regarding the admissions process.
The deadline for 11+ 2025 applications is 1st October 2024. Applications can be made online here.
Sutton High School is vibrant and diverse, and their pupils are proud to be part of their energetic and forward-thinking community. Watch this short video to see what life is like at Sutton High.
If you have any questions please do feel free to get in touch with Sutton High School registrar, who would be more than happy to help.
This Week at Manor Park
Year 1 & Year 2
Year 1 pupils have transitioned seamlessly into their new classes, immersing themselves in a range of engaging activities both indoors and outdoors, all thoughtfully connected to their current topic, "Childhood." Meanwhile, Year 2 pupils eagerly embraced the start of the new term and their new topic, which focuses on exploring the lives of significant individuals throughout history. This week, they have been delving into the remarkable achievements of Neil Armstrong.
Year 3 & Year 4
Year 3 pupils embarked on an exciting journey combining their knowledge and skills of History and Art to learn about the secrets of Stonehenge. They created inspiring art using oil pastels, and fantastic artworks of 'The Iron Man' as part of their English unit. Meanwhile, Year 4 had a hands-on introduction to their new topic, 'The Vikings,' by creating a Viking longboat from junk modelling. We look forward to seeing how their journey progresses throughout the term.
Year 5 & Year 6
Year 5 pupils embarked on the term with great enthusiasm, delving into their new topic, 'Dynamic Dynasty'. Their introductory Design Technology lesson saw them skillfully employing clay and various mark-making techniques to inscribe 'oracle bones'. They also crafted beautiful Chinese lanterns to adorn their classroom. Meanwhile, Year 6 pupils have had a remarkable start to the term, fully immersing themselves in their new topic, 'Maafa', exploring the rich tapestry of African history and geography.
