Manor Park Primary Academy

Weekly Notices and Reminders

 Friday 1st December 2023

Learning, Excellence and Opportunity

Manor Park Primary Academy School has a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. This responsibility necessitates a child protection policy and procedures which are available to view on the website, or a copy can be requested from the School Office. Our designated Child Protection Officers are Ms. Thomas and Ms. Laing. Information may need to be shared with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. Manor Park Primary Academy is committed to gender, racial, religion and disability equality in every part of school life.

School Notices and Reminders

We will be including some general reminders in our Weekly Notices sheet in the coming weeks for the benefit of our new parents/carers, which we hope you will find useful. The Weekly Notices and Reminder Sheet is sent out every Friday and includes dates of forthcoming events, school visits and workshops and important messages and reminders  about school life.

Christmas Dinner

Christmas Dinner will take place on Wednesday 6th December. No payment is required for this lunch.

You will need to provide your child/children with a packed lunch from home if you did not order a Christmas Lunch, as we are unable to increase numbers.

All the children, including those who are having a packed lunch, will receive a Christmas cracker. A big thank you to F.O.M.P for supplying them again this year.

Express And Share - Reception

We would like to invite parents/carers to come into school to complete some learning and activities focused around Winter themes, to allow children to share their learning in school with their parent/carer. There are separate dates for the three separate Reception classes. Each class will be allowed one 30 minute session for 1 parent only per child.

On your class Winter share day, children may come in wearing a festive winter or Christmas jumper to celebrate.

We ask that parents/carers arrive promptly. Due to the nature of the activities babies and/or younger siblings may not accompany you for the Winter share and unfortunately you will not be able to attend should you bring them.

We look forward to welcoming you on the day.

Lateness

We wanted to remind you that arriving on time is extremely important for a child as it ensures a good start to their day and to their learning. It also enables them to see their friends or chat to other children in the playground before school and this enhances their confidence and their social skills.

Arriving late causes a child to feel embarrassed and unsettled and can also be very disruptive to the class who may have already started their learning or gone into the hall for assembly. If a child arrives after registers have closed at 9.30 am, this becomes an unauthorised absence on their attendance record.

Registration takes place at 8.55 am and the children should be in class by then.  Some of our children are arriving after 9.00 am and by the time they hang their coats up and place lunch boxes on the racks, they are missing the start of the day.

Most of our late arrivals are only a few minutes late and we hope the following suggestions may help if you have  difficulty getting your child/children to school on time.

Ensure that your child has a good bedtime routine and a nutritious breakfast in the morning to set them up for the start of the day.

Allow enough time for your journey to school.

Always have a back-up plan if a problem arises-a family member or another parent who could bring your child to school in the morning.

Absence Around School Holidays

As the Christmas holidays approach, can we please remind you that family holidays must be taken during school holidays only and should not be extended either side of the school holiday dates. Any time taken off to extend holidays will be unauthorised and a fixed penalty notice may be applied. Thank you for your co-operation in ensuring that your child attends school every day, enabling them  to receive the best education we can provide.

Also, in accordance with the school’s Attendance Policy, requests for leave for an emergency or exceptional circumstance should be made one month prior to the dates required, whenever possible (We understand that this is not always possible in the case of an emergency). Additionally, we also require a copy of flight details to support the request if travel abroad is required. Thank you.

Appointments Through The School Day

Please try to make dental and GP appointments after school wherever possible to minimise gaps in your child's learning.

We require a copy of letters for hospital appointments, visits to embassies or passport offices and high school entrance exams to enable us to authorise these appointments . We can copy the original documents, if necessary.

Also, if you have a personal appointment please could you make the necessary arrangements to ensure that this does not impact your child's attendance and school time.

Reception – Year 6 Nasal/ Injectable Flu Vaccination session: 05/12/2023

Flu can be an unpleasant illness and sometimes causes serious complications. This vaccination is recommended to help protect your child against flu. Vaccinating your child will also help protect more vulnerable family and friends by preventing the spread of flu. This year we will be offering both nasal and injectable (halal) flu vaccination

Unfortunately, you are now unable to complete the online consent form but if you want to give consent you still can. Just contact the nursing team on Sutton Schools: HRCH.ImmunisationTeamSuttonMailbox@nhs.net Tel: 0203 903 3371

If your child is unwell and you don't want them to have the immunisation that day, please come to the school office in the morning with a written letter stating that.

This week Nursery had their Winter Express and Share. Parents and guardians were invited into the class to join in with Christmas festive activities. They also had fun in the outside areas where they enjoyed making Christmas shakers with junk modelling,  playing with minty play dough and exploring the winter small worlds and the animals that live in the snow.

Mock SAT's

This week, the children in Year 6 demonstrated their learning so far by completing Mock SATs assessments. They all showed determination and perseverance to showcase their fantastic learning so far.
