Important Safeguarding Notice
Important Safeguarding Notice: Children’s “Spy” Books
We want to make you aware of a recent issue affecting some popular children’s books by Andrew Cope, including the Spy Dogs, Spy Cats, and Spy Pups series.
Some editions of these books include a printed web address at the back. This link used to go to the author’s website, but the domain is no longer under his control. It has since been taken over by another party and now leads to inappropriate adult content.
The publisher, Puffin, has paused sales and distribution of the books and is working with schools, libraries, and retailers to remove copies from circulation. They have stressed that the website has no connection to the author or publisher.
What this means for you:
If your child has any Spy Dog, Spy Cat or Spy Pups books at home, please check the back for website links and make sure they do not try to visit the site. You may wish to cross this out using a black pen or marker.
It is safe for children to continue reading the stories themselves — the concern is only with the outdated link.
We recommend talking with your child about the importance of not following web addresses in books without checking with an adult first.
We will continue to share updates from the publisher as more information becomes available.
The 11th annual ‘Wear Red Day’ will take place across England, Wales and Scotland on Friday 17th October 2025.
Show Racism the Red Card is an anti-racism education charity, working with schools to challenge racist attitudes in society and break down barriers within communities.
This year Manor Park Primary Academy will be celebrating ‘Wear Red Day’ by asking pupils to come to school wearing an item of red clothing on Friday 17th - school uniform is therefore not required on this day. Please can we request that no football shirts or superheroes/fancy dress are worn. No donations are required to participate in ‘Wear Red Day’.

This Week in Nursery & Reception
Nursery pupils successfully engaged in an exploratory activity involving blowing bubbles, enhancing sensory development and physical control.
Reception pupils concentrated on mathematical concepts, specifically the ordering and sequencing of numbers.
A variety of resources were completed by Reception, including number cards and tactile gel numbers, to enhance understanding of numerical order. The use of individual whiteboards allowed Reception pupils to practise forming numerals and demonstrating their grasp of number lines.
Reception classes benefited from dedicated time to explore the various learning zones within the outdoor garden environment.
This Week in Year 1!
This week, Year 1 pupils successfully explored and consolidated their understanding of number bonds this week, utilising counters as a practical aid before formally recording their findings in their books.
In History, pupils in Year 1 participated in an engaging session exploring toys from the past, deepening their knowledge of historical childhood. This historical focus involved pupils trying out traditional activities such as bowling and using yo-yos.
Through Digital Literacy lessons, pupils practised using their Chromebooks to take photographs, demonstrating emerging digital literacy skills. The digital task successfully integrated their current 'Childhood' topic, as pupils used their self-portraits to label their favourite things.
This Week in Year 2!
Year 2 pupils commenced their new Still Life project by sketching a favourite painting displayed on their Chromebooks, concentrating carefully on line and shape. The pupils then transitioned their focus to three-dimensional design, closely observing real fruit to inform their small still life sculptures in clay.
During this sculpting process, the artists expertly explored and applied new clay techniques, including rolling, scoring, and blending, to capture the fruit's texture and form.
In preparation for World Mental Health Day, the children engaged in important discussions regarding positive activities that support their minds. To conclude the session, pupils completed self-portraits and shared positive affirmations, reinforcing an excellent start to their mental health learning.
This Week in Year 3!
Year 3 completed their extensive non-chronological reports focusing on the Woolly Mammoth and its life during the Ice Age.
Pupils meticulously structured their reports, incorporating key literacy features such as subheadings to organise the information effectively. A captivating ‘Did you know?’ section was included in each report to share amazing facts learned during the unit.
In celebration of Black History Month, Year 3 read and discussed the narrative Coming to England. The class explored significant themes, including the challenges faced by the main character, Floella, during her journey. Discussions encouraged pupils to reflect on the importance of celebrating cultural heritage and personal origins.
This Week in Year 4!
Year 4 successfully explored the digestive system, tracing the complete journey of food through the body.
The science lesson included a hands-on experiment that demonstrated how the body breaks down food, bringing biology to life for the pupils. Pupils gained a practical, step-by-step understanding of the complex biological process of digestion.
The entire Year 4 cohort dedicated time to reflect upon and celebrate World Mental Health Day. Discussions focused on the importance of kindness in school and in the community. Pupils shared and articulated strategies that help them feel calm and balanced, reinforcing well-being practices.
This Week in Year 5!
Year 5 explored the concept of tone during their English lesson this week. Pupils participated in a hot-seating drama activity to explore a character's emotional reaction and gain amazing insights.
The class conducted a deep-dive Guided Reading session on the inspirational life of Katherine Johnson as part of Black History Month.
We held a dedicated assembly focused on Mental Health awareness and maintenance. Pupils practised key reflection and gratitude skills throughout the week. The week's activities were uplifted by the singing of a gratitude-focused song to promote positive mental well being.
This Week in Year 6!
Year 6 pupils successfully utilised their dedicated virtual classroom environment to support the planning phase of their recent non-fiction writing unit. The pupils composed detailed and informative newspaper reports focusing on the historical event of the Amistad Mutiny.
The cross-curricular learning week also saw Year 6 engage in the creative and practical subjects of Design Technology (DT) and Art. Pupils demonstrated exceptional imagination and dexterity in the design and crafting of African-inspired tribal masks. The completed artwork showcased a high level of detail and commitment to the historical and cultural context of the project.
This Week in Sports!
The Under 10 Girls' football team participated in the Surrey Cup competition earlier this week.
The team played against the formidable Cheam Park Farm team.
Throughout the match, the pupils demonstrated significant resilience and determination. The school commends the girls on their efforts and commitment to the team.
The Year 5 and 6 Boys' Football Team participated in the prestigious Fulham FC Tournament this afternoon.
The team faced strong opposition, demonstrating notable resilience throughout the competition. Pupils displayed exemplary sportsmanship and teamwork in every match contested.
All participating pupils represented the school with distinction and commitment.
