Year 4 High Ashurst

We are getting incredibly excited for our upcoming trip to High Ashurst on Monday 15th June! To ensure a smooth departure, please note the following key arrangements for the morning:

Arrival & Drop-Off Routine

• When: Children should arrive at the usual time (8:30am – 8:45am).

• Where: Please take your child to the Studio via the Spring Door first.

• The Routine: Drop off their overnight bag and packed lunch here. Please take this opportunity to say goodbye to your child at the Studio. Afterwards, children will head up to their classrooms independently for registration.

• Departure: We will be leaving school by school minibus at approximately 10:00am.

Clothing & Gear

• What to wear: Children do not need to wear school uniform! They should arrive in comfortable, suitable clothes for travelling and for their first day of activities at the centre.

• What to leave at home: Please ensure children do not bring their Chromebooks to school on this day.

Lunch Requirements

All children will need a packed lunch for the first day, which must be packed inside a named rucksack (strictly no glass bottles, please).

• School Lunch Option: Thanks to the recent Government initiative, LEO Catering can provide a packed lunch for the outing.

• Please note: Your child lunch choice, whether you will bring a lunch from home or if they require a school lunch bag, should have been requested via the google form back in May.

The children are expected to arrive back at Manor Park School on Wednesday 17th June 2026 at 2:30pm. Please collect your child from the school playground. There will be no Year 4 after school clubs on this day. 

Request for Returned and Donated PE Kits 

We are reaching out with a friendly request regarding our school's PE kits. Over the past few weeks, children have kindly borrowed school PE kits when they have forgotten their own. We would be very grateful if you could check at home and return any borrowed PE kits to the school office as soon as possible. Having these kits back helps ensure we have enough on hand for all pupils who may need them.

In addition to this, we understand that children grow quickly! If you happen to have any spare PE kits at home that your children have outgrown, we would be incredibly thankful for your donation. These donations are a tremendous help to the school, allowing us to support other students who may need a kit. Please drop off any donated PE kits at the school office.

Uniform Donation Request

As the seasons turn and our children continue to grow, we often find ourselves with outgrown school uniform items that are still in good condition. Instead of these perfectly usable clothes gathering dust in wardrobes, we have a wonderful opportunity to give them a new lease of life and support our school community! 

We are requesting school uniform donations here at Manor Park Primary and would be incredibly grateful for any contributions of clean, good-quality items. All donated uniforms will be sold at our 2nd Hand Uniform Sale during the Summer Fair, with all proceeds going directly back into supporting school projects. 

What Items Are We Looking For?

We welcome donations of all items of our school uniform, including:

• Jumpers and cardigans (with Logo)

• Trousers and skirts

• Polo shirts

• Summer dresses

• PE kit items (t-shirts, shorts, tracksuits)

• School shoes (in good, wearable condition)

✨ Special Request: We are also asking for donations of high-quality / excellent condition towels and swimwear (for boys and girls, age 8 upwards). 

How Can You Help?

Donating is easy! Please ensure all items are clean and in good, wearable condition (no rips, significant stains, or missing buttons, please). You can drop off your donations at  the school office between Monday 11th May and Friday 19th June.

EYFS: Nursery & Reception

• In Phonics, Nursery pupils learned the 'k' sound and practised recognising it in different words. During Maths lessons, Nursery pupils focused on numbers and counting, successfully matching written numbers to the correct quantity of objects.

• As part of their new 'Big Wide World' topic, Nursery pupils explored different types of holidays and discussed what to pack for various climates. During their Topic lessons, Nursery pupils also talked about the beach and identified the different animals that live there.

• In Maths, Reception pupils investigated odd and even numbers, using equal sharing to test them, writing number sentences, and creating fun 'odd and even monsters'. During Writing sessions, Reception pupils learned four new digraphs (two letters that make one sound): 'ay', 'ou', 'ie', and 'ea'.

• As part of their Topic work, Reception pupils began learning about the beach, investigating what items to pack and successfully writing their own beach bag lists.

This Week in Year 1

• In Design and Technology (DT), pupils explored different sources of food to understand where our meals come from. During DT, they also practised essential food preparation skills, including chopping, slicing, and mashing, before designing, making, and evaluating their own healthy sandwiches.

• During English, pupils investigated a variety of instructional texts to identify key features, such as clear layouts and command words. In English, they used time adverbs to write clear sentences and created their own step-by-step instructions on how to make a sandwich.

• In Maths, pupils developed their number confidence by counting and recognising numbers all the way up to 100.

• As part of their Science lessons, they introduced and practised the key vocabulary required for their new topic about plants.

This Week in Year 2

• During English lessons, our pupils read the wonderful new book Into the Forest and thoroughly enjoyed exploring alternative endings to traditional fairy tales. In Maths, pupils began an exciting new topic focused on problem-solving, where they practised using highly efficient methods for addition and subtraction.

• As part of their Art and History lessons, pupils linked their learning on 'Magnificent Monarchs' to a new topic called 'Royal Portraits'. During this Art topic, the children used modern technology and AI software to design and create their very own impressive royal portraits.

• In Religious Education (RE), our pupils studied the deep significance of prayer within the faith of Islam. As part of their RE learning, the children also explored the special items that are traditionally needed for Muslim prayer, such as the prayer mat.

This Week in Year 3

• In English, pupils began reading their captivating new book, Escape from Pompeii, where they explored the key features of a diary entry. Also in English, pupils applied this new knowledge by writing their own diary entries, skillfully using the first-person perspective and expressing clear thoughts and feelings.

• During Mathematics, pupils developed their time-telling skills by learning to read Roman numerals on a clock face and practising telling the time accurately to the nearest minute. As part of their Science lessons, pupils investigated the properties of light by identifying various light sources and distinguishing them from light reflectors.

• During French, pupils enthusiastically started a brand-new topic, focused on learning the names of different fruits and vegetables.

This Week in Year 4

• In English, pupils explored a cultural narrative based on 'The City of Ur' by studying the characters and the unique language used in the text. Within History, pupils built upon their English text by investigating the ancient civilisation and daily life within 'The City of Ur'. During Mathematics, pupils began an exciting new topic focused on recognising, measuring, and drawing different types of angles.

• During Religious Education (RE) lessons, pupils from across Year 4 visited a local Gurdwara to enrich their understanding of the Sikhism faith and the 10 Gurus.

• As part of their Forest School sessions, Year 4 pupils developed their outdoor skills by learning all about different types of birds and their habitats.

• Across all subjects, pupils demonstrated excellent teamwork and language skills while sharing their ideas and learning together this week.

This Week in Year 5

• During English lessons, our pupils developed their formal writing skills by composing letters of apology to the Greek god Zeus, focusing on respectful tone and structured arguments. In Maths, pupils explored the concept of negative numbers, learning how to position them on a number line and apply them to real-world temperature contexts.

• As part of their Science investigations, pupils worked practically to separate different mixtures by successfully using the methods of sieving, filtration, and evaporation. During History sessions, pupils researched ancient Greece and created detailed, informative fact files about the historic structures of the Acropolis. In Art, pupils began a exciting new topic on Expressionism, where they experimented with combining different colours to represent and evoke specific emotions.

• Across all these subjects, our pupils demonstrated outstanding focus, teamwork and resilience throughout the week.

This Week in Year 6

• As part of their History lessons, pupils enjoyed an educational trip to the Imperial War Museum earlier this week. During this History visit, they explored the fascinating World War 1 and World War 2 galleries to support their current topic. Back in the classroom for History, pupils began creating their own documentaries about the museum artefacts that they found the most interesting and significant.

• In Physical Education (PE), our Year 6 pupils travelled to the David Weir Centre for a brilliant sports morning. Throughout the PE event, pupils demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and showed great kindness by cheering each other on during the final races.

• For Drama and Music, pupils began their exciting end-of-term production rehearsals this week. During these Production rehearsals, pupils worked incredibly hard to learn their new dances and practice their correct positions on the stage.

Friends of Manor Park Summer Fair  - Saturday 27th June

The Manor Park annual Summer Fair is a huge event in the school calendar and over the years, FOMP  has raised money, which has been spent on events and equipment that have benefited all our children. Supported by parents and staff,  our fairs have always been a great family afternoon out and the children  have a wonderful time.

Music Taster Day – Saturday 20 June 2026, 9.00am–1.00pm

Orchestra Unleashed – Discover Music at Sutton High 

We are delighted to share an exciting musical opportunity for the Year 5 girls at Manor Park Primary who have a passion for music. Sutton High School is hosting a Music Taster Day on Saturday 20 June, designed to inspire young musicians and give them a taste of music-making at senior school level. Please see flyer here.

During this lively and immersive morning, the girls will:

• Sing together as part of a vibrant choir

• Play in a large-scale orchestra

• Experience the infectious rhythms of a Samba Band

The day will be led by our experienced Music Department staff, supported by talented Senior School musicians. This unique collaboration allows participants to make music alongside girls of their own age as well as older students, helping to build confidence, skills, and a real sense of musical community. It also offers a valuable insight into the rich musical life at Sutton High School.

As orchestral playing forms a key part of the day, participants should be able to play an orchestral instrument at approximately Grade 2 standard or above. To ensure the girls feel confident and prepared, music will be sent out around two weeks in advance.

The day will begin at 9.00am and feature a variety of musical activities throughout the morning. At 12.30pm, parents and guardians will be invited to attend a short, informal concert showcasing the girls’ work from the day, with the event concluding at approximately 1.00pm.

The Paul Alan Project

We are thrilled to announce that for the upcoming academic year, Manor Park Primary School will be officially supporting The Paul Alan Project as our dedicated school charity. This is a fantastic opportunity for our children to learn about community safety, emergency skills, and the importance of quick action in critical situations.

The Paul Alan Project is a volunteer-run charity with the vital mission of saving lives through emergency preparedness. They are dedicated to preventing cardiac arrest deaths in the UK by focusing on three core areas:

1. Free Lifesaving Training: They provide FREE basic life support training (including how to perform CPR and confidently use a defibrillator) to individuals and organisations in the community.

2. Defibrillator Provision: They raise funds to install Public Access Defibrillators (PADs) and Bleed Control Kits in communities, particularly in parks and residential areas where provision is often poor.

3. Awareness: They raise awareness of the signs of cardiac arrest and the difference a quick response can make.

Our 2025/2026 Fundraising Goal: £2,000 for Manor Park

This money will be used to purchase and install a 24/7 Public Access Defibrillator (PAD) and a Bleed Control Kit in Manor Park. This vital equipment will be accessible to our entire local community, serving as a critical resource in a medical emergency.

Throughout the year, we will be holding various exciting events and activities designed to promote awareness and raise money for The Paul Alan Project. Details of these events will be shared with you soon.
