Nursery & Reception
Reception has been a hive of activity this week! The children have been working incredibly hard exploring their newly learned sounds, developing their phonetic awareness by identifying the initial sounds in a variety of objects. In addition to their phonics work, the children also had a wonderful time developing their gross motor skills. They practised their aiming and throwing technique with bean bags and baskets, displaying great sportsmanship by cheering and supporting one another throughout the activity.
Year 1 & Year 2
This week has been a whirlwind of creativity and learning across the lower years! Year 1 embraced their artistic talents, using paper plates and a variety of collage materials to design their own unique dinosaurs during a wonderful free-flow activity. They also delved into the world of mathematics, exploring part-whole models with cubes to understand how different parts combine to create a whole.
Year 2 pupils had a double dose of excitement, first embarking on a still life art challenge where they experimented with mixing primary colours to match the shades of real artwork, and then venturing out to explore still life masterpieces in various art galleries around the UK. Inspired by these great works, they returned to the classroom to create their own still life drawings. Finally, Year 2 children honed their mathematical skills by comparing units of measurement to determine greater numbers.
Year 3 & Year 4
Year 3 pupils embarked on several exciting adventures this week! They embraced immersive learning with Now Press Play, journeying back to the Stone Age to experience life as hunter-gatherers. The children also enjoyed a thrilling day out at Go Ape, where they demonstrated teamwork and problem-solving skills while navigating a challenging obstacle course and engaging in orienteering activities.
Meanwhile, in Year 4, pupils delved into the world of poetry, exploring various poetic features through their class text, "Beowulf." They confidently shared their knowledge through engaging presentations to their peers. Additionally, Year 4 expanded their geographical knowledge by expertly labelling countries in North and South America using Google Earth, globes, and atlases.
Year 5 & Year 6
Year 5 had a busy and engaging week! They embraced their inner engineers, designing and building fantastic pneumatic machines and experimenting with hinge movements. The creativity and problem-solving skills on display were truly impressive. Our Year 5 pupils also continued to develop their outdoor learning skills in Forest School. They crafted beautiful wooden cookies and even learned the valuable skill of fire lighting using flint and steel. In PSHE lessons, Year 5 explored the importance of assertiveness, practising confident communication and learning to express their needs while respecting the boundaries of others. These are vital life skills that will serve them well. Finally, they delved into the world of physics, investigating the relationship between load, fulcrum, and effort needed to lift a weight using levers.
Year 6 explored their musical talents this week, learning rhythmic skills and how to start and stop a beat on the drums. They also unleashed their artistic sides, painting African masks in preparation for further decoration next week. We look forward to seeing the finished results!
Manor Park Netball
Our netball team demonstrated great determination and sportsmanship at the Gladman Netball Tournament held at Seaton House this week. Despite facing strong competition from other schools, the team showed impressive perseverance and improved their performance with each match. Their positive attitude and commitment to teamwork were a credit to the school.
Year 5 Bikeability
Year 5 pupils successfully completed their second cycling proficiency session today. The focus of the session was learning how and when to change gears effectively, adapting to different terrains and inclines. All participants demonstrated a good understanding of gear changes and showed increased confidence in their cycling abilities.
