SSP NEWS & UPDATES
Spring 2 - March 2026
What a busy term it has been! Thank you all for your continued support and for the opportunities you provide for your schools.
It has been a pleasure to work with you, your staff and pupils!
We look forward to seeing you in the summer term!
Have a restful break! The SSSP Team 😀
On Friday 13th March we welcomed delegates from across Sutton and Croydon for a CPD day designed to inspire and share fresh ideas to develop physical education for all pupils.
This year's theme 'Beyond Boundaries: The Power of Open Minds in Sport' encouraged teachers to explore new approaches and consider how varied and inclusive experiences can help every child find enjoyment in movement. Across the day, delegates attended a range of practical workshops including sports specific sessions, SEND, health and well being. Huge thank you to our facilitators from: Stormbreak, England Squash, British Dodgeball, iball, Addington Valley and Skip2bfit.
We heard from two inspirational keynote speakers. Maddy Morrison shared her career journey from qualifying as an FA referee at age 14 to now working as Senior Assistant Producer at Sky Sports. She reminded delegates of the significant impact of teaching staff who “plant seeds without knowing which ones will grow”. We also heard from Alex Hill, two-time Hyrox World Champion, who spoke about resilience, determination and having an open mind to new opportunities.
Delegates had opportunities to network with colleagues from across the borough - sharing personal experiences. To everyone that attended, you are making a real difference!
Since launching in November 2025 we have delivered 420 children across 7 schools!
Our Mini Healthy Hero Oral Health workshop for Reception children begins with an age appropriate input to introduce the session which includes a video clip, a song and an engaging story to hook their interest. The children learn what it means to be healthy and why it is important to maintain a healthy mouth!
Then the children get busy; the focus tooth brushing activity is delivered to groups (6 max per group) and the whole cohort accesses this activity. The focus teaches the children how to brush their teeth with their own personalised toothbrush: the children learn the vertical brushing method and they get to take their own toothbrush home with them.
"It was good for me to see which children don't brush their own teeth. It was engaging and the children loved the activities." Reception Teacher, Brookfield Primary Academy.
"The children really enjoyed working with Rachael and it was lovely having a workshop that was thoughtful and relevant to EYFS and had activities that interested the children and that had been thought of with them in mind. From the dragon story, to song, cleaning the dragons teeth and then creating kebabs, the children were hooked in from the beginning." EYFS Phase Lead, Rushy Meadow
On Tuesday 24th March over 150 KS1 children gathered for our SSSP Easter Bunny Run! They hopped, skipped and jumped their way round 10 fun filled stations, learning lots of facts and testing their maths skills at the same time as being physically active!
Seven Schools joined us: Foresters, All Saints Benhilton, Wallington Primary, Brookfield, Devonshire, St Elpheges and High View.
Huge thank you to Foresters Primary School for hosting such a fun event and to their young leaders for helping the children around the course!
