As another school year draws to a close, we wanted to take this opportunity to wish all our families a fantastic summer break. It has been a year filled with growth, learning, and countless memories. We are so grateful for your continued support and partnership in your child's education.
We hope the summer brings you plenty of time to relax, recharge, and make new memories with your loved ones. Whether you're embarking on exciting adventures or enjoying some well-deserved rest at home, we hope you find joy in every moment.
Thank you again for a wonderful year. We look forward to welcoming you back in September for another year of learning and fun!
Last Friday, our Year 1 adventurers embarked on a memorable trip to the RHS Garden Wisley. Armed with their natural curiosity, they delved into the enchanting world of plants and flowers.
The children were captivated by the vibrant colors and sweet scents of the rose garden, where they learned about different varieties and even spotted a few buzzing bees collecting nectar.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the exploration of the Glasshouse, a tropical paradise filled with exotic plants. The children gasped in amazement at the towering palms, delicate orchids, and the enormous leaves of the giant water lilies.
After a picnic lunch, the children burned off some energy in the adventure playground, climbing, swinging, and sliding with glee.
The trip to Wisley was not only a fun day out, but also a valuable learning experience. The children were introduced to the fascinating world of plants and gained a deeper appreciation for the natural world. They returned to school buzzing with excitement, eager to share their newfound knowledge with their families.
A special thank you to all the parent volunteers who accompanied us on the trip and helped to make it a success. We couldn't have done it without you!
This week, our Year 6 have been on their week-long residential to the Isle of Wight.
First stop was the majestic Osborne House, Queen Victoria's summer residence. Our children wandered through opulent rooms, imagining life in a royal household. The expansive grounds offered ample space for games and picnics, with the sparkling Solent as a stunning backdrop.
Evenings have been filled with seaside fun including crazy golf and a trip to the Shanklin Theatre.
The highlight of the week was undoubtedly the inflatable course. Children bounced, slid, and splashed their way through the challenging obstacles, cheering each other on with every triumphant leap. The laughter and camaraderie on display were truly infectious.
The Isle of Wight residential trip has been an incredible experience that will stay with our Year 6 forever. They learned about history, embraced nature, and forged lasting bonds with their classmates.
A huge thank you to all the staff members who have accompanied our children and made this trip possible. Your dedication and enthusiasm helped create a truly magical experience.
Last week, our Year 6 leavers took to the stage for a final farewell performance, bringing the legendary tale of "Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies" to life with an unforgettable twist. The audience was transported to Sherwood Forest, where a modern-day Robin Hood and his band of misfit Hoodies fought against injustice and championed the underdog.
From the opening scene, it was clear that this was no ordinary production. The talented cast captivated the audience with their energy, wit, and impressive vocal talents. The hilarious script, filled with clever puns and contemporary references, had everyone in stitches.
Standout performances included a charismatic Robin Hood, a sassy Maid Marian, a deliciously evil Sheriff of Nottingham, and a hilarious group of bumbling guards. The ensemble cast shone brightly, delivering catchy songs and impressive dance routines with confidence and enthusiasm.
The production's creative set design, colourful costumes, and expertly executed lighting and sound effects created a truly immersive experience. The audience was transported to the heart of Sherwood Forest, where they witnessed the triumph of good over evil and the power of friendship.
The Year 6 leavers' production of "Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies" was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to witness it. It was a fitting farewell for our talented Year 6, who have grown into confident and capable young individuals during their time at Shawley Primary School. We wish them all the best as they embark on the next chapter of their educational journey.
Last Friday, a group of our Shawley pupils experienced the thrill of Wimbledon firsthand, witnessing an electrifying doubles match on the iconic No. 1 Court.
The atmosphere was electric as the children took their seats, surrounded by passionate tennis fans from around the world. The players' skill, athleticism, and determination were on full display, captivating us with every powerful serve and lightning-fast volley.
The visit to Wimbledon was more than just a sporting event; it was an opportunity to witness the pinnacle of athletic excellence and sportsmanship. Our pupils were inspired by the dedication and passion of the players, leaving with a newfound appreciation for the sport of tennis.
A special thank you to Miss Wallis and Miss Hendra who organised this memorable trip. It was an ace experience that will be cherished by all who attended.
Polar Bears had a wonderful experience where they flew to Spain in an aeroplane! The children made their own passports, boarding passes and luggage tags ready for them to be checked at the check in desk by our wonderful air hostess. Once the children had arrived at their destination we got to the airport where we would change into our swimwear and have some fun in the pool and sandpits. The children then changed into their party clothes and had cocktails and fruit! They finally finished off their fun day with an ice lolly in the sun!
Last week, Shawley Primary School had the immense pleasure of hosting a group of students from China. This enriching cultural exchange provided a unique opportunity for our children to learn about Chinese language, traditions, and customs.
Throughout the week, our visitors participated in a variety of lessons in classes across the school. They also had the chance to explore our local area, visiting landmarks and experiencing British culture first-hand.
The week culminated in a heartwarming closing ceremony, where the Chinese children took to the Shawley stage to perform a selection of songs. Their beautiful voices and heartfelt performance brought a tear to many eyes, symbolising the deep connection that formed over the course of the week.
The cultural exchange program was a resounding success, fostering understanding, friendship, and a love for learning across borders. We are incredibly grateful to our Chinese visitors for sharing their culture with us.
Our recent OFSTED visit was very positive. A huge thank you to our parents for your warm comments about the school and the provision for your children at Shawley. We will share the full report with you as soon as this is published at the start of next term.
Huge thanks to all our parents for your generous contributions to Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Charity. Please see the letter of thanks below:

A huge well done to Leah, Mya, Amber, Olivia, Sophie and Cariad who all took part in the amazing theatre show ‘Planet Rock‘ with CADA Stars last weekend at Epsom Playhouse for 2 nights running.
The show was fantastic and the Shawley girls rocked the night away! They were absolutely brilliant. Well done girls. We are all so proud of you!
Congratulations to Leah who took part in the Neon Gymnastics Competition last Sunday and came 2nd. This is a fantastic achievement!
Just to remind parents/carers that if they take their children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), then the following will apply:
1. If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children in a rolling 3 year period since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
2. If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3 year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
3. If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/children in the rolling 3 year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under section 444 Education Act 1996. Surrey County Council is not responsible for authorising pupil absence and therefore cannot withdraw any Penalty Notice requests without the written permission of the Headteacher.
Shawley's school lottery has been set up specifically to raise money and make a difference for our children! It's a fantastic way to bring parents, carers, staff and the wider community together, in partnership with our school, and at the same time give something back. We hope to raise funds that can support and enrich the education of our children - we aim to provide extra resources for the children, improve the school environment as well as run extracurricular activities such as music, art and sport.

Your support is greatly appreciated and we wish you good luck!
Our school catering provision is offered to all children across the Trust by LEO Catering, our in house catering supplier. The menus are created and refreshed three times a year, catering for children with allergies and are available to view below. Our menus follow government food standard guidelines and offer excellent value at £2.70 a day for a main meal, dessert, choice of salad bar, fresh bread daily and vegetarian and Halal options. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive a free meal funded by the government's Universal Infant Free School Meal grant and we encourage anyone in any year group who thinks they may be eligible to apply for free school meal funding to apply.
Menus are available here: www.leoacademytrust.co.uk/647/school-meals.
Children in Years 3-6 will need to pay for their meals via Arbor. Cost of a school meal is £2.70 per day, £13.50 per week. Please ensure there are sufficient funds in your child's account in advance, otherwise no school dinner can be ordered and you will need to provide your child with a packed lunch.
For those children who do still bring in a packed lunch, you may have noticed that your child brings home some of their lunch as we encourage the children to take home uneaten food. This enables you to see exactly what your child is eating at lunchtimes and adapt their lunch accordingly. We ask that packed lunches include healthy options in line with our Healthy School status. Children should not bring fizzy drinks or chocolate bars to school.
We have a number of children with nut allergies in school which means that all staff and parents must be vigilant about ingredients we use in school and items put into lunch boxes. No nuts should be put into packed lunches.
Pupil premium is additional funding allocated to all schools in England to support disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. This budget includes pupils who are currently entitled to free school meals, have been free schools meals in the past six years (FSM ‘Ever 6’), children that are cared for or adopted from care and children whose parents are in the armed forces.
We would like to remind all parents who are eligible, to apply for the Pupil Premium Grant. This grant enables the school to provide additional support to our children where needed. Examples of this are, access to extra-curricular clubs and additional support with specific areas of the curriculum.
