LEARNING

HISTORY

Our teachers have prepared and already delivered lots of exciting history lessons this term. Children from Reception to Year 6 have been learning about a broad variety of topics in their history work including the Tudors, Children in World War II, The Great Fire of London and the Stone Age. Our teachers have thought of many different ways to engage, excite and embed learning as much as possible, even dressing up as Henry VIII and his 6 wives!

EXCELLENCE

Doodle Maths and Times Table Rockstars

Children across all years at Cheam Park Farm have been working hard on their Doodle Maths and times tables both at home and at school which is great!

Parks Class were top Doodlers last week and this week Armstrong Class are our top Doodlers.

Well done to Christopher P in Bronte Class and Oliver in Yellow Class for achieving a 100 day streak on Doodle!

Well done also to our 4 CPF pupil leaders on TTRockStars: Hari (Y3), Ruby (Y4), Aarav (Y5), Viraaj (Y6)

On Friday every week we award two children per class a 'Star of The Week' certificate. This is given to children who have impressed their teachers throughout the course of the week. We also give one child per class a 'Be The Best You Can Be' certificate for demonstrating our Excellent Learner values. Winners for the last two weeks are...

OPPORTUNITY

MUSIC

We are proud of the wealth of music opportunities we have at Cheam Park Farm and we are delighted that our music provision has continued despite our disrupted year. Children from Nursery to Year 6 are thoroughly enjoying their music lessons. We have strong connections with Sutton Music Service who deliver all our whole class violin and cello lessons in Year 4. Many of our children also have individual instrumental lessons in school. Please do talk to your child if you feel they would be interested in taking up instrumental tuition.

NEWS

LEO Spelling Bee

On Friday 23rd April, children from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 competed against the other LEO schools in a Spelling Bee. It was incredibly challenging and our children were presented with a number of very difficult spellings. Cheam Park Farm pupils delivered a masterclass to ensure that we came first place in Year 3, 5 and 6. Our Year 4 team came runners up courtesy of a fastest-finger-first tie-breaker question; beaten by the tiniest of fractions of a second! Congratulations to all of our teams, you should be very proud of your achievements!

Parking and driving on Kingston Avenue and Molesey Drive

At the end of last term, we were notified of more than once incident of extremely dangerous driving on Kingston Avenue.

We would like to continue to stress that drivers should, where possible, keep away from Kingston Avenue and Molesey Drive and should consider Park and Stride, especially as the weather is getting warmer and drier. Drivers must not park on the zigzags or yellow lines outside the school. It is extremely dangerous.

Please also can we remind parents to be considerate of our neighbours and not park over residents driveways or stop on the yellow lines.

Girls' Football Trials

Sutton United are holding trials for their girls' football team; all details are below.

COVID UPDATES

This section of our newsletter gives you any updates as they occur regarding the ongoing changes due to Covid. We will update links below with the latest government and Department for Education guidance as well as share with you any changes made in school as we react to these updates.

Sending Children Into School

Please continue to ensure that you are not sending any child into school who is displaying one of the three symptoms of Coronavirus in children (high temperature, new continuous cough or a loss of smell/taste). Please note, children DO NOT need to be displaying all three of these symptoms. If they are displaying any one of these symptoms then your child should not be in school. We also remind all parents that if one child is suffering from any one of these symptoms then the whole family must stay away from school. DO NOT send a sibling of a child with these symptoms into school. We are relying on parents providing us with accurate information as to why your child is not in school so please help us to fully understand your child's symptoms so that we can support the entire school community as best we can. You may find this flowchart useful for deciding if you should send your child into school.

Latest Guidance

We will always signpost you to the most up-to-date guidance regarding Coronavirus via this button. Please familiarise yourself with this information regularly so that you are aware of any changes.

School Drop Off and Pick Up

Many thanks to parents for adhering to our procedures for drop off and collection. We feel the system is continuing to work well this term and we welcome any suggestions for further improvements. Please continue to ensure that you are adhering to these measures: wearing masks and maintaining distance from each other and staff members during drop off and collection.

Teachers are available to speak to before and after school, but this should be used for quick messages only. Longer discussions should be held in an arranged appointment time. Please email the school office to arrange this: cpfpoffice@leoacademytrust.co.uk

Please find more guidance on face masks here:

Face coverings: when to wear one, exemptions, and how to make your own

Meeting with others safely (socially distancing)

LOST PROPERTY

Whilst we have Lost Property locations on both sites, we are aware that some children have lost items that haven't been located yet. Please can we politely request that parents check name labels inside jumpers, cardigans etc. to ensure that your child doesn't have items of clothing belonging to another child. It also seems timely to remind parents that all items of clothing should be named so that we can easily return them to their rightful owner. Thank you for your assistance with this.

SCHOOL NURSING SERVICE

Children, young people and families with any concerns can contact the school nursing service via phone or email. For parents, the school nursing duty line number is 0208 770 5409 and is open Monday to Friday 9am-5pm. For children and young people who require support, the contact number is 0208 770 4409 from Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, or the email address is schoolnursing@sutton.gov.uk

SUPPORTING PUPILS IN SCHOOL WITH MEDICAL CONDITIONS

Cheam Park Farm Primary Academy wishes to ensure that pupils with medical conditions receive appropriate care and support at school. This policy has been developed in line with the Department for Education’s guidance released in April 2014 – “Supporting pupils at school with medical conditions”.

Please ensure all asthma inhalers and Epipens are in date.

When a child is prescribed medication such as antibiotics ask the GP for one that can be taken three times a day – before school, after school and before bed.

CELLO LESSONS

We are proud of the breadth of music provision we have at Cheam Park Farm, including our whole class instrumental lessons. Claire Cossins, our cello teacher, has immediate lesson availability if your child is interested in taking up individual tuition in this instrument. This is a fantastic opportunity for children who clearly enjoy music so please contact the school if you are interested.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

We often have job opportunities that arise somewhere across the LEO Academy Trust. You can access details about jobs via the images here or keep checking the LEO Staff Vacancies section of the website by clicking here.

SCHOOL LUNCHES

LEO CATERING

Our school catering provision is offered to all children across the Trust by LEO Catering, our in house catering supplier.

The menus are created and refreshed three times a year, catering for children with allergies and are available to view on the LEO trust website.

LEO meals are freshly cooked on site and our menus follow government food standard guidelines and offer excellent value at £2.30 a day for a main meal, dessert, choice of salad bar, fresh bread daily and vegetarian and Halal options. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive a free meal funded by the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meal grant and we encourage anyone in any year group who thinks they may be eligible to apply for free school meal funding to apply.

We look forward to welcoming you to our table where eating well is always our aim.

PACKED LUNCHES

Many of our children bring packed lunches into school and we are very pleased with the time parents take to ensure the contents of the lunches are healthy. As a 'Healthy School' we would like to avoid children eating sugary food items in school. We also suggest no more than 5 items in the lunchbox so that children have time to play outside as well as eat lunch.

We would also like to remind all parents and carers that our school is a Nut Free school. This means that no child should be bringing anything into school either in their packed lunch box or as a morning snack that contains nuts. This includes spreads such as peanut butter, nutella etc. in sandwiches. We have children attending our school who suffer from severe nut allergies and, as such, cannot be exposed to any form of nuts.

Thank you for your support and understanding in ensuring that all of our children are kept safe in school.

PTFA

The PTFA is excited to let you know that they will be launching an online second-hand uniform sale with items costing from as little as 50p so please look out for an email over the next few weeks. In the meantime, if you have any uniform that you would like to donate to the school, please wash it first and then place it in the purple wheelie bin - one at each site. We would welcome anything school related from bookbags, trousers, jumpers, dresses to school shoes, PE shoes, CPF beanie hats and so forth. Thank you for your support.

Wheelie bins are situated on both sites - next to the main entrance on the Kingston Site and next to Rainbow House on the Molesey Site.

PARENT WORKSHOPS

Sunshine Support

Please click on this link for a range of webinars and workshops provided by Sunshine Support who provide independent information, advice and support to parents/carers and professionals of children and young people with special educational needs.

PLAYGROUND GAMES

We are aware that some of our children across both sites are re-enacting computer games they have been playing outside school during break and lunchtimes. Unfortunately, on occasion, this play has become quite aggressive and violent and inappropriate language is often used. We know that computer and online games have age recommendations to ensure parents know what is/is not appropriate for their children . Please see the link below to Commonsensemedia. This website has invaluable advice for parents regarding films, computer games and other media children may wish to access.

POST BOX

A reminder to everyone that the post box outside the main entrance (M) is secure and can be used as a drop off point for communication. It is opened every day.

SCHOOL FUND

We pride ourselves on offering our children varied and exciting experiences and activities that help to support their learning of the curriculum. The School Fund allows us to provide additional activities across all year groups.

We have a voluntary school fund donation of £10 a term / £30 a year per child or £40 for a family if there are siblings at the school.

Parents can pay for School Fund online via our Arbor payment system. Log into the parent portal and on your child's home screen under accounts you will see School Fund, click into this and select Top Up Account. You can then choose to pay the £10 or £30, if paying for a family for £40 please pay on your eldest child's account). Please ignore the weekly payments, you just need to make the one off payment for either the term or academic year as you choose.

We would like to thank you for your continued support.
