Train to teach with LEO Academy Trust!
LEO Academy Trust is incredibly proud to work in partnership with the National Institute of Teaching as an Associate College to deliver Initial Teacher Training (ITT), Early Career Framework (ECF) and National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) from September 2025.
Associate Colleges are successful school trusts, selected because of their wealth of in-house expertise in professional development and their deep relationships in their local areas. This collaboration allows us to be at the forefront of educational excellence, providing local teachers with unparalleled opportunities for professional growth, learning and development. Together, we are shaping the future of teaching and learning, ensuring that every child receives the highest quality education.
Applications for our primary ITT courses are now open for September 2025! Our initial teacher training is a fully immersive school-centred programme - aspiring teachers will be in the classroom from the very start. But full immersion does not mean that you will be thrown in the deep end: our trainees are mentored and have central training once a week.

I am an office manager in a Primary School . Help me send an empathetic email response to a parent. The parent is upset that clubs have been cancelled this week. Write a short paragraph that acknowledges their frustration but explain that there has been staff sickness.
Prompting Guide 101
By Gemini for Google Workspace
From the very beginning, Google Workspace was built to allow you to collaborate in real time with other people. Now, you can also collaborate with AI using Gemini for Google Workspace to help boost your productivity and creativity without sacrificing privacy or security. The embedded generative AI-powered features can help you write, organize information, create images, accelerate workflows, have richer meetings, and much more, all while using your favorite apps like Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Sheets, Google Meet, Google Slides, and Gemini Advanced (the standalone chat experience available at gemini.google.com with enterprisegrade security). Gemini is accessible right where you are doing your work — with access to your personal knowledge base in Drive, Docs, Gmail, and more — so you can enhance and create powerful workflows across the Workspace apps with less tab switching and interruption. This guide provides you with the foundational skills to write effective prompts when using Gemini for Workspace. You can think of a prompt as a conversation starter with your AI-powered assistant. You might write several prompts as the conversation progresses. While the possibilities are virtually endless, you can put consistent best practices to work today.

What does the evidence base tell us about effective oral language practice?
By Chloe Butlin
Whatever your role in school, no doubt you’ll have noticed the rise in interest in oral language. Deemed by some as the ‘next big thing’ and by others as a passing trend, the topic is also encumbered by debates over definitions and practice.
There is a dizzying array of terms to describe aspects of oral language: talk, debate, dialogue, and oracy. These terms are accompanied by a huge breadth of practice that includes presentational talk, exploratory talk, paired or group work, literacy and debate.

Language used in the classroom becomes increasingly sophisticated, specialised and subject specific as pupils progress from primary to secondary school. Disciplinary talk is a recognition that mathematicians, scientists, and geographers, communicate in subtly different ways, and that talk routines can be well matched to curriculum content in those different areas.

Let's read it again: the power of storytime replays
By Matthew Courtney
Early Years practitioners, librarians, parents and anyone who has ever read a book to young children will be very familiar with the phrase ‘Can we read it again?!’. While adults might fear hearing these five words again and again, research indicates there are benefits to revisiting much-loved texts.
This blog will explore the research which highlights the multiple benefits of reading aloud to children in the EYFS and Key Stage 1, the specific benefits of revisiting the same text and consider what this means for our classroom practice.

Parental Engagement in Early Reading.
By Lincolnshire Research School
Recommendation 5 in the EEF Guidance Report ‘Preparing For Literacy’ is to support parents to understand how to help their children learn and suggests ‘running training workshops for parents with explicit advice on reading is likely to be helpful’.
Where an EYFS setting has adopted recommended approaches of print referencing in class storytime, (see previous blog ‘The value of Print referencing in the EYFS classroom’) a workshop early in the year to share print-referencing skills with parents would be ideal.
