LEO Conference 2022
Just weeks until #LEOConference22.
This year’s theme is Sustainability. We’ll be providing practical ideas to support the implementation of our new Sustainability Strategy.
We have fantastic speakers lined up and a great range of workshops on offer. We are also delighted that local artist, Doug Shaw, will be joining us at Epsom Race Course for the Conference on Monday 31st October.
Doug will be visually capturing the spirit & key messages of our day together.

National Essential Letters and Sounds Trainer
Congratulations to Eloise Willett, Foundation Leader at Manor Park, for being chosen to be a National Essential Letters and Sounds Trainer.
Essential Letters and Sounds is a Systematic Synthetic Phonics (SSP) programme, validated by the Department for Education.
By distilling Letters and Sounds to its purest form, – its essence – we ensure every phonics lesson is taught to the highest standard. Essential Letters and Sounds is an SSP where only the essential elements are included.
The name reflects the key principles of the programme; simplicity and consistency.
Well done again Eloise on this fantastic achievement!
Chartered College Fellowship Status
Congratulations to Amy Carlile, Director of Training and Professional Development, on being awarded Chartered College Fellowship Status. Amy is joining over 1,300 Fellows who are based all over the world.
'Nomination and the award of Fellowship recognises your commitment and achievement within the teaching profession and is an accolade held by some of the most committed teaching professionals who have shown a significant and sustained contribution to both the profession and their own professional development. It is a mark of your skills, achievements and expertise and a formal recognition and celebration of your ongoing contribution.'

CPD Spotlight
Year 1 Early Career Teacher Conference
Early Career Teachers (ECT) from across LEO Academy Trust enjoyed taking part in the Harris Crystal Palace Teaching School Hub ECT Conference at the start of this term.
The day included an induction session covering all of the details of the two year induction programme. This was followed by a master class from Tom Bennett exploring all things behaviour.
In the afternoon, the cohort were split into cluster groups for training on Module 1 of the programme. This session focused on the following areas:
Being inclusive
Being Aspirational
Working with parents, carers and colleagues
Thank you to all our ECTs for participating in the training and to Amy Carlile, Christopher Perrott, Dominique Briggs and Graham Macaulay for leading the sessions for both the Sutton and Croydon clusters.
Year 1 Mentor Training
Mentors from across LEO Academy Trust took part in their first online training session as part of the Early Career Framework Programme.
The session covered the following areas:
Understanding the role of the mentor
Understanding the principles of ONSIDE mentoring
Relating the ONSIDE principles to your current practice
Creating an open and trusting relationship with your mentee
Potential tensions of mentoring / assessing
Mentors are now looking forward to their next training session so they can continue to develop their mentoring skills. Thank you to Amy Carlile and Dominique Briggs for leading this session.
Year 2 Mentor Training
Mentors from across LEO Academy Trust joined together with mentors from across Sutton for the first training session of the new school year. This session is the first of three sessions in the second year of the mentoring training programme.
The session covered the following areas:
Educative mentoring and the role of the mentor in year 2 of the programme.
Educative mentoring and learning conversations
Supporting your ECT through Practitioner Inquiry
Mentors are now looking forward to supporting their ECTs with their practitioner inquiries this year. Thank you to Amy Carlile and Dominique Briggs for leading this session.

Teaching Creative Digitial Skills
Join the Adobe Autumn Camp, FREE courses running from 26th September to 13th October, 2022.
Each learning path is designed and delivered by expert teachers and Adobe Education Leaders. Participants who complete this course will receive a certificate and a digital badge accrediting 10 hours of professional development. This is the perfect professional development for busy teachers looking to get more hands-on experience with Adobe Creative Cloud apps including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, XD, InDesign, Premiere Pro, Audition and Animate.
The Adobe Autumn Camp courses are FREE and provide four tracks of learning.
Teaching and Learning Spotlight Magazine and Webinar
Join for the FREE first edition of the Teaching & Learning Spotlight magazine and webinar, presented by Jade Pearce and Bradley Busch.
Choose the time that suits you best for the webinar, as both options will have the same content: the first one starts at 4.30pm BST on 17 October, and the second at 6.30pm BST on 17 October.
The magazine will summarise 10 recent research studies into topics such as Retrieval Practice, motivation, and Cognitive Load Theory.
In the accompanying webinar, Jade and Bradley will discuss the studies featured in the October edition, exploring their potential applications in the classroom. You will leave this talk full of ideas on how you can use the latest studies in your classroom to help your students learn more effectively, with knowledge of the research to back it up.

Maths No Problem Conference 2022

Greenshaw Research School are pleased to share their plans for 2022-23 with the launch of their new brochure!
They have Focus Days, online Spotlight Sessions and bespoke support on offer – the brochure can be viewed here.
In the Autumn and Spring terms they will be covering topics ranging from Pupil Premium to Effective Professional Development, and Literacy to Cognitive Science. Their sessions will help participants develop evidence-informed practice and decision-making.
Senior Mental Health Lead Training
